Stock does not mean you cant have nice pics of it.
(I'm a photographer)
1. Dont take pics in the middle of the day. With the sun up high in the sky, your shots will look hazy and lacking contrast. Best to avoid 10am-7pm. Most other hours are good.
2. I would avoid steep camera angles. Try to keep the camera at the cars level- like around windshield height or slightly lower.
3. See if you can find a slightly more photogenic site. In my experience, avoid grass. It almost always looks terrible. Popular places are warehouse loading docks, ramps, or in front of old buildings. Seems to be a rugged theme. Or, go ultra modern and park in front of a really nice building.
4. In low light, set your camera to the lowest ISO setting and use a tripod. Use a higher aperture (f number).
5. Polish off your photo with photoshop. A little sharpening, a little contrast and sometimes a border always help.
I tried to help the first pic with some photoshop. Over sharpened but, all well.

NYNCTC: what i mean by closing the lens is, trying to keep the lens f-stop # as high as possible without taking too much light going into the lens. i have a point and shoot camera too but i control the settings... try to put it on the "M" setting if it comes with one. and in the screen you will see something like... f2.8 or f5.6... to understand this is the higher the f-stop the more the lens closes... for bright day time pics... try to close the lens... for night time pics, you wanna try to open it up as much as possible without overexposing the picture. heres a link for you to read up on... this is where i get my sources if i dont understand something...
http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/key=aperture
here is a sample of the pic i took at night with the f-stop at 2.8... i also dont wanna go into talking about having the exposure close at a later time to have more lights get into the lens if its night time and such, but read on the link i provided... you'll understand it more than me trying to explain it. haha... heres the pic i was talking about...

other than that, play around with the camera settings. keep it up man.
