Basics...

9006 is the low beam bulbs...
All DOT approved 9006's are give or take 15% of 1000 lumens. That means that they can be as bright as 850 or 1150 lumens. Hypwerwhites are barely even bright as the dimmest DOT approved bulbs so stay away from them. Also stay away from blue and purple lights since the shorter wave lengths dont fare well against shiny concrete or snow. Yellow for bad weather, blue for show and white for everything else.

Now High beams are rated at 1700 lumens with the same 15% give or take. MUCH MUCH more then our low beams.

My conversion basically changes your low beams into high beams without blinding everyone infront of you. The cut off remains good and barely (if not none) any adjustments will be needed.

9005 bulbs (i like sylvania cool blues, white light on the road, bright, legal except they dont look purple or blue to other people. They look white with a hint of yellow)

Step 1.

Remove the 9006 bulbs from your scion and compare them to the 9005's. You'll notice the two pegs in the plug section of the 9005 versus the one of the 9006 and the center mounting peg is reversed.

Step 2.

Use needle nose pliers and snap a small 1mm section of the top right corner of the middle mounting peg. (pictures below this post)

Step 3.
Look at the plug section and see the two little pegs?
Snap them completely off with pliers.

Now install just 1 bulb into your car. Now shine your head lights onto a wall of your choosing. Notice how bright it is? Now turn off the car, let the bulbs cool down for a minute and install the other bulb. Now shine the light again and check the cut off, adjust if needed.

Enjoy your new brighter headlights!

 

 

Will the longliveity of the bulbs suffer? And your sure it doesn't blind people? I hate having people flash their brights at me, it seems it would be like driving with my brights only having them aimed at the ground.

This is an old skool trick we used to do to our civics... It works for older cars with dim headlights, but the stockers on the tC should be fine... But I guess if you really need it brighter, then go for it....

did it to my tc tonight, not a whole lot brighter, definetley a difference but more clarity

are you using the same wattage 9005s or are you using higher wattage bulbs? ie 100w instead of 55w? Can our wiring harnesses handle a higher wattage bulb like that?

 

im using a 65w 9005 streetglow bulb, i was using a 55watt 9006 sylvania cool blue, drove around for about 2 hours and check the harness a few times, no burning and no problems with my bulbs

 

nice mod....if cutoff isnt a problem then it should be all good

 

i just replaced my headlights with hyperwhites. they look dope when they're lit up.

 

go on ebay i know this guy that will give you a good deal on headlights they are called extreme vision lights beautiful light puts out i nice bright ___ blueish white color here is the bubls you are looking for

even though it says its for the fog lights on the ax they will fit the 9006 on your tc

those are your 9005 bulbs they will fit your high beam for tc even though its says 4 runner... a 9005 bulb is a 9005 bulb they all the same... i bought the h4 xtreme vision they are brighter then stock... warning to all do not get bulb brands (euro Dezigns, sportlines F1, RaZo) they are stock bulbs or they are way to blue cant see the road... i have the really really blue ones for sale if anyone wants them... i can try to take pics... they are mostly for show you can't use them at night... they are h4's... im out

 

I tried this my 9006 bulb has a much wider seat where the O ring sits. No way it fits I near ground off the tabs but it is the seat. Either I'm on drugs or the poster did NOT try this on his car.

OK I went outside and snap some pics, the 9006 is MUCH MUCH bigger on the seat where the O ring sits This post is BS, thanks for wasting my time and money.

Oh I took the O ring off my 9006 and it just falls over the whole seat on the 9005 as it is THAT MUCH bigger.

 

I did it on my 94 integra, had no problems whatsoever

 

the o-ring isnt important for this mod thats my bad.

But the bulbs do fit and work

I did that in my grand am except instead of cutting the tabs off .. I switched the harness/plug.. / a high wattage one!.. Worked just as well..

 

I only care about my Scion, and the 9006 will NOT fit the hole, these size is WAY too big with or witout the O ring. Has anybody tried this on their Scion TC? I have and it does NOT work.... Either I did it wrong or it plain does not work. Now if anybody tries and it works, that would mean I screwed up, and I'll try again. I think that 9006 is at ;east 1/4 inch too big on the O-ring sealing base.

If I am now to lose the O-ring for fit, no thanks...

 

I believe that the 9006 and 9005 are the same seat... that is why they put the knotch on the end of one of the prongs on the 9005 bulbs and the grooves on the inside of the plug... it will work

 

9006 and 9005 are the same size. I can interchange them on my car, which isn't a Scion tC but I can place a 9006 in the 9005 without a problem that is after the modifcation.

 

look the base is the same size but you can check the pics of the seat above where the O ring is and the 8006 is much bigger in fact the 9006 O-ring will just fall over the entire seat and O-ring of the 9005. I don't know aobut XYZ cars but on a Scion TC the seal is done at the O-ring and the 9006 WILL not fit you can't even get the seat into the housing much less have a problem with the base and / or nubs

Come now just go out to your TC take out both bulbs check seat and then figure out no way it will work. Like I said I would like replies from people that have DONE it on a TC as um this is a TC forum.

I measured them:

9006 seat is .865 base: 1.179
905 seat is .785 base: 1.810

Basically the seat is 1/10 of an inch too big maybe it could be shoved in maybe it would just destroy the housing. The base is the about the same.
