Aurora Garnish v2.0
That's pretty much how my v1.0 was constructed. That would work. Just make sure to get a plastic dremil cutting bit or you'll melt as you're drilling and it just takes forever to sand all that back down.....trust me.
Just threw on a few shots of paint last night and wetsanded with 800 grit today. I'll shoot some more paint tomorrow in the morning once it warms up a bit. Here's my projected breakdown:
Friday - Paint
Saturday - Clear
Sunday - Wiring and Install

Well, today turned out to be productive minus having to run into work for an emergency.
Ok, so here's the progress I've made today. I've gotten the paint thrown on and, once dried, removed the decal (illuminated part) and it's now ready for clear coat.
Note: Placing a decal on it, painting over it, and then attempting removal of said decal is a whole lot easier in concept than it is in real life to do :?. It doesn't show in the picture, but the bottom right leg of the 'N', some of the paint pealed off when the decal came off
and I'm stumped as to how I can fix it. I wonder if I can spot paint it...thoughts?

Ok, clear coat is on peeps and I got those little tough spots out. There's still a couple spots here and there that weren't 100% perfect, but this is a one off and w/o factory equipment, it's what I was able to pull off.
All and all, I'm very happy with how it came out and CAN'T WAIT to install it tomorrow and light it up!

Technically this counts as "tomorrow". I just shot these before going to bed. Just trying to figure out where to place the LED's for optimal lighting but don't want to have too much shining through or you don't see the actual emblem.

This one above, you can see the bottom row of LED's reflecting a bit, but the surrounding LED's look nicely placed.

Now with this one above, I changed the direction fo the LED's and made them point backwards. My thought was if this garnish is pressed agains the trunk, then the LED's will flood the area. Much like the LED in a cupholder and then adding a water bottle.

Ok, so this project is not "done" yet. It's still a prototype and, until otherwise stated, will be a work in progress.
With that said, here it is in all it's beauty. Oh, and Scion Corp. pretty much said, "that's kick ___" at Scion Night!

thats whats up, that came out awesome man
If you're serious about continuing to work on it/build another one, I think it would look good if the SCION sat a bit more vertically centered. As of now its centered as if the TBL was still there...
but I honestly think you're crazy for not just calling it a day cuz that looks so legit as is.
post some pics from further away with the Continental TBL lit!

Batman, I'll take a pic tomorrow morning when I head off to work around 4:30AM. To be honest with you, the reason the SCION isn't more 'vertically centered' is because the OEM tbl delete was a very very last minute decision. BUT, raising it higher does complicate things because it wouldn't light correctly IMO since it'd be pitched instead of straight back. IDK.
People have been emailing me right and left after Scion Night and it's been one day asking where they can get one of these. Some didn't believe I did it, lol.
Keep the comments coming, I love to hear peoples thoughts.
I love it! Absolutely perfect idea & perfectly executed! I'd love to have this done to my car, but with my handle name light up in graffiti type letters.. Might have to try this on the other hatch I've got since one of the bolt brackets broke when my car was broken into.

That's a damn nice piece of custom work! I wouldn't mind trying to make something like that for my car. One thing though... the light behind it looks so uneven with various bright and dim spots. I wonder if you could frost the acrylic the same way you can glass in order to even out the light intensity some. I guess that might make it too dim though. Just a thought. All the same, a damn nice piece of work!
I think the amount of lights is a little over kill personally but I do have to say that both ideas turned out great.
I remember when you first posted about the garnish like 3 years ago. It must feel awesome to finally have it finished..props man!
