phoenix, people ask you what kind of car you drive because the car's only been out for a couple of years. dont you think? i dont know...

MJ, there are some beautifully designed cars out there with the 'bottom bumper cut in half'..

You guys might not like it, and thats okay. But I question most of you on your sense of design and overall understanding of form and line quality. I work at a graphic design firm in Scottsdale creating logos and print collateral for many reputable companies and organizations in the state (design is all related). If it wasn't for my above-average design knowledge, I wouldn't be holding the position i do now. FYI, most people start @ the Junior Designer position right out of school doing repetitive production work, but I skipped that. I don't mean to brag or whatever, just letting you know my design history.

Off to work. Have a good day.
They should fire u then J/K Your desing sux IMO. If I wanted a Civic I would have bought one. I believe those at Toyota and Scion have been doing this desings LONG time ago.

Tell me it doesn't look like a Mirage from the back. Do it.

Sure, they've been designing cars for a while, but it doesn't necessarily mean they're good at it. Case in Point: Pontiac.

They limit the design for cheaper cars on purpose to get consumers to lust after the more expensive, well designed cars (like the beamer and the gallardo i've posted).

I knew I'd get flamed for this. The first couple of responses usually set the tone for the whole thread anyway. Nobody wants to disagree with the majority, do they? ;)

soros, the only way i'd get fired is if i hit my boss right across his face. At the Portfolio Review at the end of my schooling, companies were lining up to see my work and interview me right on the spot, while other's were paid no attention to. some students even held grudges against me for that. I have no doubts about my ability as a designer.

edit* I meant they limit the design of cheaper cars within the brand.

I see the Mitsu similarity, and also agree that the tC's rear is on the plain side. But that in no way indicates that yours looks better. Looks like a tC with junk in the trunk. NO likey.

Sorry, but that is hideous. I love the back of the tC. Design skill or not, I would not have even touched the tC if it looked this way. I LOVE to disagree with the majority, but in this case I have to say it doesnt flow well or look well from any point that I can see. Not bashing your attempt, but I just think it looks terrible in my eyes. The car is too tall and too round for that back end.

tc20, I bought it because of Toyota's reliability, my price range, the options (sunroof, etc), and overall styling. Best bang for the buck IMO. And it's not that I hate the back. It's just "normal". It doesn't go with the sharpness of the front's headlights. The back is very economy car looking (Mirage).

And I will post as many photoshops as I want. I've only posted 1 anyway, so.. I dont know wtf you're talking about.

And sorry, you CANT question us on our sense of design and form. The design and form is meant to capture the eye of the people driving the car, not some designer who thinks those who dont like it just "dont understand it". That is pure starving artist mentality there. "You just dont like it because you dont understand it". Total crap. Sorry, but if it doesnt appeal to those that buy the car, then it is useless, regardless of your "understanding of form" .

And just so you know, I spent a LOT of my time during youth in the art world, so I am not some visionless engineer. The thing I hate about many artists in the fields of art I have taken part in (music, drawing, tatoos, writing) is that stupid "you dont like it so you dont understand it mentality". That is bs 100%.

I personally like the photoshopped back. I think if it were like that it would make the tC look more wedge shaped which totally makes it look waaaaay more aggressive. I think maybe if the trunk lid were higher kinda like corvettes then it would look sweet. But I still like my rear, haha. But I like this one too, and I think from the back, the tC looks like the Civic anyways, so there.

I agree that the rear end of the tC is its weakest point, aesthetically. But going from a smooth round profile to sudden sharp angles completely throws off the graceful sweeping lines generated by the front fascia. I too wish that the rear end of the tC finished off as well as the front started, but I would prefer more of an Audi S4 or Infiniti G35 end than a Civic/BMW hybrid.

And don't ask for opinions if you can't handle contradictory ones, there will always be people out there who don't agree.
Also, try a little bit of humility. Tooting your own horn just makes you look like a pompous ___ and overshadows any good reasoning that you may provide. Good luck in your career.

I cosign with the others. the back looks fine as is. any sharper and it won't match our rounded front end.

I think the chopped rear end is extremely fugly. And no one needs to work at a design firm to know what their eyes tell them. If it's not pleasing to one's eyes, then it's not pleasing to one's eyes, easy as that.

But, it's great that you took the time to try to design something you like. It's your creativity that brought something you envisioned to "life", so kudos for that. But, that being said, I'm so glad you had no part in designing the tC.
