Default billet grille mounting problems

so, i ordered these billet grilles, painted them black, and as i'm about to mount the top grille, i realize the mounting makes no sense. yes, i know it's a late thought.

heres a picture. kept it large for detail's sake.

how do these 4 off-center screws equate to an effective mounting solution? perhaps someone has some insight into this. thanks!

hmmmm... thats a tough one.
where did you buy the grill from?

The only thing i can think of is going to home depot and making some brackets.
You can drill into those and mount them to the frame
That might look a little ghetto though.

no instructions, got em from ebay. actually my second set. first one used a totally different mounting method.

:\

i messaged the seller yesterday, and a couple other tc owners who bought these to ask them how they did it, if at all!

i mean those screws have to be intentional. you dont just put those there out of being lazy or by accident. that took effort. haha

Same thing as mine. What I did was I got the exact size drill bit of the studs. Then I put the grill up to the bumper and marked the holes up as close as I could and drilled the four holes in the bumper. Then I angled the top of the grill in and put the studs through the holes. For the bottom studs I had to pry and fex the bumper a little to get it but it can be done. I never put any nuts of the studs there is no way thats going to come out anyway so thats what I did.

thanks for coming forward with that info man. appreciate it. damn that just makes me sad that i cant keep the chrome ring :[ it would match my wheels perfectly.

just drill in the side vent grilles too right?

I just found this thread too saying the same thing.

im also noticing how easily the paint i put on it is chipping off. i put primer, paint, and clearcoat. so its kind of disappointing to see it die so easily.

For the side vents I just placed them up to the insert and drilled through the insert and then zip tied the grill.
Ya the paint chips off easly I hate it to! But oh well.
Make sure you post pictures when your are done I would like to see how the black grill looks also might be looking to do this soon.
Thanks

actually, in light of the paint chipping like nothing (i drive up to 80-100 miles a day, and living in vegas there are a lot of rocks and construction on the road) ive decided im just going to take the grilles and sell them. the bottom grille has been on 2 days and its gotten like 10-12 chips already. this is very saddening. they look AWESOME on my car too.

:[

thanks for your help though. now to go wallow in sadness. haha

You shouldn't let a couple chips get you down! Everytime it gets really chipped, take it off and shoot it with some flat black or something. Easy fix.

well, i just repainted my calipers black. and this caliper paint goes on real nice and thick. i was thinking of testing some out of the side vent grilles that came with the kit... seeing if it chips easily, and how it looks.

any thoughts on this? its the paint in the brush-on duplicolor kit... :D
