Default Black Fiberglass vs Carbon Fiber

I keep seeing these "Topics" on the web that Carbon Fiber is running out and most of the CF is going to the government and other such industries. That's why it's so expensive. So whats the difference between Black Fiberglass and CF? Is there any advantage to CF? Can you get different color options for Black Fiberglass like CF? Any and all info you want to post would he helpful.

I already googled some information I'm just seeing what you guys and gals have to say about it.

Well from a style standpoint you are not going to see a drastic difference, but that is really only the cosmetic benefit of CF. Carbon fiber is used for its strength properties in comparison to its weight. I work with Carbon Fiber all the time as a textiles engineer, but I have not heard anything about a shortage as you are saying. The federal government doesnt even use that much of it anymore. There are much higher performance fibers than Carbon at this point, and much more expensive for the government to waste money on. For the interior or exterior trim pieces that one would make out of CF for automotive use, unless you are going racing, Black Glass would work well....you may also want to consider Aluminum Fiber (Silver Glass), Kevlar woven with Carbon, or other stylish alternatives.

Actually it looks almost exactly the same. Carbon looks the way it does because its made with an Epoxy Resin that is very clear and high gloss. The usual resin used for Fiberglass is Polyester. You can make fiberglass with Epoxy and have the same appearance, but its VERY expensive by comparison.
