Default body damage fixing/ now with pix

hey everyone. a few months back I posted a question. Asking if anyone had any bodywork tips for 2 dents I had on my driver side door. Well I got a lot of negative responses. telling me I should take it to a body shop, I'll mess it up if I do it my self. and so on.

Well I did my homework read some books, saw a lot of vids and asked some close friends questions. Well this past weekend the weather was good so I spent Saturday afternoon fixing up the two dents. and I have to say that was pretty easy fix. I still have to repray the top coat, It has been to cold for me to do that. but the thing that bothered me the most is gone. those damn dents.

I was quoted from body shops between 500 to 700 $ and not having my car for week. Well it coast me a total of 40 $. I guess I'm one of those guys that feels if I can do it myself, why pay someone else to do it.

here are some pix

this is what the dents looked like.

after as cleaned and sanded the area, then re cleaned the area I applyed the body filler. this is a shot between the 1st and 2nd layer. I was using every thing layers

this is a shot of 2nd to last layer. I used black primer to help find the low and high spots..

I will post more pix when I have it all done and respryed. Hopefully I'll get it done this weekend if the weather is good.

feel free to add you opinions

What can it hurt? If it doesn't turn out right, he'll only lose time and $40 bucks. Doesn't seem like a bad deal to me if it turns out right and he saves $500.

great job attempting it yourself. i completely agree, why pay someone for something you can do yourself. if you screw up, take it to get fixed, they would have had to do the same thing anyway. Might as well try to save money when you can.

you shouldn't think like that. look at it like this. The frist person to do anything had to do it for the first time. They found out what to do and what not to do. Then over time they found a way to do it good and then great. But they had to learn everything alone by just trying it. But now we live in a world where you can go online read and learn how to do what very you want. If some one else can do it why can't you?

wow props to you bro. I don't know If i could do something like this. I got a question. I'm a n00b when it comes to body work. Did you pop the dents and even it out with the body filler. Or just filled in the dents with the body filler?

I'm a n00b when it comes to this also. But i did i found out it would be way to much work to go inside the door I did not want to mess with the air bag system. Pules the center of the dent had a nasty crease in it. I evened out the dent with body filled using very thing layers

Theres a couple tools you can use to pop dents out in doors. One is an air bag you stick in the window slot, then gently pump it up to give yourself a little bit of room. The other tool is a Z looking thing that you put down there. You turn one end and the other presses on the inside of the dent until you get it as close to popped out as you can.

You could also try the air can method. You take a blow dryer and heat up the dent and area around it. Then take a can of compressed air, turn it upside down, and spray the liquid on and around the dent. Instantly cooling the heated area will cause the dent to pop out. This works on light dents.
