Default Carbon Fiber or black paint

Hi there,
I am currently installing my urethane body kit for my rs1.0 tC, and it came to me that my car would probably look better with a jet black hood and trunk instead of carbon fiber b/c of the roof already being black. Oh yeah... and it would be a lot cheaper. BUT.... is this tacky? Let me know what everyone thinks... Thanks in advance.

I see what you are saying, but if I were to paint the cf to match the car, you wouldn't be able to tell it was cf...

The original purpose of CF isn't for looks, it's for weight reduction and strength.

the black hoods and spoilers look really good on the rs1's. If it was white or azure blue, it might be a question of tackiness.
imo i think the black hoods look better than the cf on red anyways

Carbon fiber

It'll be more expensive but it's functional and looks black. Plus, people may think that you've painted your hood black so it looks like carbon fiber. So it'll save you a hassle.

do not paint it black..thats looks cheap and you might as well slap on some APC stickers while your at it...

but you have two choices when you go with carbon fiber. you can get the set fo about 830 from bbist..talk to steve, really nice guy and will prolly hook you up. but you can either get stratight up carbon fiber, or you can have them do a color weave in red, which will make the hood black and red, and that looks really cool...

Great Point. My friend has a white 93 accord, got into an accident and replaced his hood with one from a dark grey accord. He hasn't had a chance to paint it yet, but he constantly gets ragged on by ricers who think he is trying to mimic carbon fiber.

Yeah, do not paint it black. That only serves the purpose of trying to make it look like something its not. In my opinion, some might agree, on a daily driven car, the only reason a hood should be a different color is if it is made of carbon fiber.
I'm sure it's possible to get a "darker" carbon fiber to make it look black, but I also agree that a red carbon fiber would look sick.

Carbon fiber would probably look a little better, IMO, but considering you don't even save 20lbs. I really don't think it's worth it.

The stock hood isn't very heavy.. I think someone else weighed it at 22lbs. and the carbon fiber one was 9lbs.

Not even a noticable difference.. You could take out your spare tire and save more weight.

Why on earth would you need to strengthen your hood?

Also, the carbon fiber ground effects actually crack alot easier then stock ground effects.. Carbon fiber is good for weight reduction, that's about it.

100% quality carbon fiber should take A LOT of force to break. I don't think it dents, and is harder to scratch. One c/f component alone is not gonna save you much weight but multiple pieces will save you plenty.
Quality carbon fiber, in contrast to its weight, is some of the strongest material out there and is used in multiple applications in multiple industries.
I am sure there are experts out there on the subject who have more knowledge.

Agreed. When it comes to c/f for our cars, I believe a lot of companies use laminate or "imitation" c/f. You know what I mean?

If you liek you can always darken your CF Hood. This is done easier by getting the CF Hood Painted by applying a black paint with a clear mix. This will keep it darker, and not fade as much, as i have seen on CF Hoods. It would be like tinting it a little. this can be done, i have seen it, and IMHO it looks better.

^^ "candy" paint

yeah... get CF. and despite blackonblacktc's rude comment on Motor-FX.. i recommend Coi over Steve.

Motor-FX is better quality... but i have nothing against Steve... good buddy of mine.. Coi as well... Steve's double-sided CF hood is more for looks/shows, whereas Coi's is more functionality. that's how i see it.

you choose.

i didnt mean it to be rude...

but i have seen coi's OEM hood, and steves hood...i prefer steve because it looks ten times better, and prolly is lighter since it is double sided. but now if you are comparing steves, to cois vented hood then its a different story, kinda like comparing apples and oranges!!
