Lol, what else would it do? It keeps the front tires gripping the ground as much as possible. Beyond a splitter that extends to more of an undertray and beyond a canard setup, this is basically the next step if you want more downforce. I know the infamous Primadonna Z's had spoilers in the front too. How functional they were, I don't know, as those were placed much lower on the car. But here's a pic (courtesy of Google Images):

 

damn what a bunch of haters, maybe it doesn't look good but it has a purpose.Your splitters, wings, and hitler mustaches on your bumpers don't, which is the biggest difference between a REAL time attack car, and a car that ACTUALLY belongs in the 'Ricers and Taters' thread.

 

can't argue function over form...but i worry that as cool as rado is, he might start a new and very dangerous trend...i can just imagine douchebags everywhere putting park bench spoilers on the fronts of their cars, blocking their forward vision and hitting people all over traffic...

the function of the front wing is as simply as putting downforce on the front tires as the car is a fwd road race car. Everyone can question the visual appearance of the front wing. If we were worried about pleasing people and making the car easy on the eyes we would not be involved in racing. Race cars are dirty, fluids everywhere, & scratched up. These cars are not made to win show car contest, if that was the case there is no need for a front wing. But what we are is a race team and our objective is to win racing competitions. As this past weekend is over now and the results are in, our off season modifications have made us 5 seconds quicker @ Willow Springs. To explain a little more about the front wing, it definitely is functioning correctly and has improved downforce tremendously as our data acquisition tells us. This was our first time on track with a very conservative tune up, suspension setup, and to add to the chaos of a brand new car. The drive (Chris) & team has to get used to all of the changes as well. We only have about 25miles on the chassis. That is obviously nothing when a Formula 1 team spends in the off season 300 miles a day on track. We are very happy with the out come from this weekend

 

Seriously people, stfu. That wing has a purpose and clearly gets the job done. This is one of the most functional things and tC owner has ever done. When some of you get to this level then you can talk. "OOOO it's not shiny and pretty so it's got to go!" Damn, all of you just shut up with you negativity.

 

I think we won't be starting a trend due to people hating on the looks. But as for our car, the purpose of the wing being so high is to get the horizontal surface of the wing in very clean air. Also you must not block the drivers vision.
