The only part of the process that you may not be able to aboid inperfections in is the glueing part. To improve this I would suggests sanding the contact edge to be smooth so that when you put the lense on its an even fit. Then use a small bead of the sealent to stick the pieces to gether initially so that none gets squeezed into the inside of the assembly. Follow with thicker coats applied to the outside.

well there wasnt that much taping involved, we pretty much tore everything apart as you can see.
i did file the edges down before i glued, but it def. couldve been neater.
maybe ill try to tackle another pair for someone in the future if the price is right.

its gonna be pretty pricy, cuz this is really time consuming.
id say it takes at least 30 hours to finish a set.
