Default Custom hatch release

I know some stock cars have trunk releases inside the car but for the 2009 scion none. Is there a way I can put a switch or button inside my tc to open the trunk/hatch?

How so?
or should I just go to a mechanic near me and have them do it custom.

open the cover on the back door trim,
then push the lever with the back door motor,
open the back door..

it does have a hatch release.. it's used more for emergency purposes.

you should read your owner's manual...

Ha... I think he's thinking of something a little bit different. Like a glove box button or something.

That is correct. Like in a scion you have the gas tank release latch nest your seat. Well I wanted to know if you can customize and make a latch, button or switch in one of the dumby slots near the mirror controls to open the back hatch.

Why do you want this, you will still need to lift it up. So why not just push the button on the hatch?

^^ exactly, even if you press a button that you installed, the hatch won't open.

you'll need to go back, and open it again hitting the stock open switch already there.

unless you fabricate a large spring, stick it in there, to "pop" it open which is a lot of work just to install another button which will also take some work

No this makes total sense; even a stripped EK Civic Dx has them and they have no power accessories. They are common on many cars, and no, the hatch/trunk doesn't go flying open. Usually the point is to open it so passengers can load stuff.

I really wish my tC had one of these. I'm thinking of copying other OEM designs and run a cable (to the emergency release or something.

Could easily add a quick hydrolic shock to it. this would push the lid up with no hands. Much similar to the ones used under the hood of a few xBs in our club (which are obviously not OEM). However then you would need someone outside the vehicle to close it again anyway.

To each their own.

Open so passenger can load stuff, they can just push the button that is on the hatch and open it. All of this is unnecessary money. You would have to get the switch and all that stuff to make it work. Then get some sort of new shock or actuator to make it open, then have to wire it and make it all work. So in the end you are spending money to save 3 seconds of small effort to lift the hatch.

There are times when loading a trunk with full arms ... it's not always convenient.

How about cheaper parts from the junkyard... a sleeved cable running under or along the carpet, to the lock mechanism. The major issue would be a decent actuator on the pull side.

This makes no sense at all, it is way more convenient to have the latch on the hatch itself. Your opening the hatch anyways right? Well the button is on the damn handle. To me, NOT having a switch on the inside is an upgraded feature.

And of course a stripped civic with no power accesories would have this. It takes no power whatsoever to put one of those releases inside the car. Just like there is no power involved at all with the gas lid release. However the switch on the garnish does require power. Why would you want to numb down the car? This would be like installing crank windows on the tC because you don't like pressing the button...

A more costlier route with actuators as mentioned to push up the hatch would be real nice.

Another vehicle I had had the trunk release on the remote.

theres a wire in the kick panel that controls the pop! I can get it if needed.. but it doesnt accually open it! you need lift plus release!

Yea....I have my AUX button on my Viper Remote Start/Alarm wired to "pop" it....All it does is release the lock, but doesn't "pop" it up and open fully....Maybe the hatch doesn't have whatever it needs to actually "fling" it open like a spring mechanism or something as most other cars do? or the weight? or maybe its the ways the hydraulic lift things are made....? just speculating here

The hatch weighs way too much for this to work.

That's what I was thinking...The hydraulic lifts don't support this
