Default Different shades of Carbon Fiber?

I checked out my friend's ride today, and his carbon fiber seems to be of a different shade than mine... I have a Seibon CF hood, but I forgot to ask what brand his CF was. Is there a difference between the brands, or does CF discolor over time?

Does anyone have an explanation for the different colors? :?

carbon fiber discolors after awhile in the sun. starts yellowing, cheaper brand hoods tend to yellow quicker.

Wash and wax your hood frequently to maximize color and life.

Carbon fiber can have different types of weaves depending on the manufacturer giving in the appearance of a different shade.

^ that aswell.

1x1, 2x2 etc and different directional weaving which makes it look different in the sun

It could also be a kevlar carbon fiber which would give it a more yellow tint, but I dont think I have seen any kevlar hoods for the tCs around. Maybe I'm wrong?

Timeline? The hood is practically brand new... Less than half a year.

enough sun, no matter how short of time will start to discolor. a lot of people say to clear the hood again once u get it, for safety.

also depending on the brand they coulda gotten a ____ clearing job.

yeah there is, usually waxing/washing and taking care of it will make it last long. but if its at a point where its so discolored and hazing from the sun u have to sand it down wax it, use special liquids and then hit it with clear again. there's a couple of DIY's all over the net for restoring a hood.

im actually on the same boat right now but for my cf lip. will be clearing it myself, nothing professional nor am I hitting it with sand paper just a clear over, let u know how it turns out.

Hm. Could you take some pics? Before/during/after, please.

The resin is perfectly fine, it's just that the cloth seems a bit different. How would clearcoating the resin fix the color?

will do with the pics.

hmm the weave in the CF is fine? or the actual weave is different? usually clearcoating has a hardener that makes the CF in the hood look brand new and fixes any yellowing of any sort

Do you have any pictures? With my Seibon hatch its slightly yellowed but its 2yrs old. Unless you waxed it every week like I do you would never notice the color difference. The back is also a little darker than the top
