Default DIY: TYC LED tail light install

Even though I got rid of the car I promised a DIY for installing the TYC tail lights.

Sorry it took so long, I've been busy modding my new car.

Anyways, here is the DIY in PDF format.

It's a pretty simple install if you don't have the bazooka sub. The most difficult part is getting over the fear of loosening up the rear bumper.

I hope this helps out.

i installed my TYC tails myself too ... it wasnt hard .. im not too mechanically inclined and i was still able to do it .. yeah loosenin the rear bumper was kinda scary .. but .. it went all back together fine .. looks sweet .. nice DIY btw

i put amber LEDs in the blinkers as well (from superbrightleds.com) to complete the look .. cuz i think its stupid to have nice LED brakelights and stupid regular bulb blinkers .. i put the same ones in the front too .. had to use a load resistor and install it for each light to make the blinkers not blink fast (hate when i see that) .. worked out very well .. i was impressed ..

Which load resistor did you use and where is the best place to get one? Thx!

BTW, You should put LED's in for your back up lights and license plate lights as well. I replaced mine with LED's and they look awesome.

Peace,

not sure about replacing the back up lights w/ LEDs .. havent seen enuf light comin off them to replace incandescent light's brightness .. and yeah .. you can get the load resistors off superbrightleds.com .. they are on the merchandise list .. they are actually located just under the 7440 LED bulbs .. the ones i bought for the blinkers .. 5 bucks each .. and ya need 4 ..

Thanks for the info. I am assuming you need 4, one for each turn signal? Thanks again!

That is one damn sweet DIY!! (Presentation wise, I mean.) The TYC tails are growing on me. But for the $$$, I'd rather get a TRD Exaust or GrillCraft Upper & Lower Grills. (BTW-My tC is to get me from point a to point b all the way to point z. Its definitely not a racer! ) You only get half props cause you got rid of your tC!

Yeah it was a tough decision to unload it but, I didn't have it for sale and someone pulled the everything has a price thing at me, I threw out a wild price that I didn't think they'd bite on since it was just under purchase price plus mods. They bit.

Plus since it had only been a week since I got my wife a new car for a wedding present, I was having new car envy. Also helped that I only owed like 2k on the tC.

I do miss it at times, it was a sweet ride but, I'm happy with my new car as well.

I'm glad you liked the DIY. I've been writing a bunch of them lately with the mods I've been doing to my new car and I owed scion life this one and I don't drop things.

Even though I no longer own the car I'll still be on here contributing what I can. Mostly it's a good car, has lots of potential and the level of rattleness is completely subjective.
