Default DIY Window Tint?

I really want tinted windows, but sadly i dont have that much money. And quite honostly i dont want to drop that much money on something i could spend elsewhere.

Well i never really realized it, but there is DIY window tint.
i found this place
http://www.snaptint.com/car-tint.html

they sell a tC kit for around 50 some dollars. Not bad.

Does anyone here have window tint they did themselves with a similar kit>? If so how hard was it and do you ahve any pics?

Or got suggestions? i need help.

thanks.

Well I have tinted a few of my cars but I always had issues with the rear window. The tint usually comes in 2 pieces and was a b**ch. Have you called around to see how much it would cost to get it tinted? Cause 50.00 is alot if you end up screwing it up. Maybe just save up and have someone else do it and get the warrenty with it. Just my opinion.

one of my friends tried doing tint on his own windows..and it didn't come outt that great b/c of air bubbles, messy cuts, etc...my suggestion, unless u know u can do a really clean job, follow the advice of these guys ^^^ and get it done professionally for a lil more money. Then again it is my opinion.

I wouldn't do it. I'd rather drive around with no tint than drive around with crappy tint.

Do it right or don't do it at all.

Window tint ranges from $100 to $150, it'll probably be the cheapest, most rewarding mod you do.

Save the cash you'll spend repeatedly trying to tint the windows and have it done at a good shop.

'good' doesn't always mean 'expensive.' I paid about $130 for my back window, rear side windows, and both sunroofs. I'm extremely happy with my tint job, it's flawless.

Word of advice, though, ask around for a good tint place, or at least watch them tint a car before you have yours done.

Tinting cost varies greatly place to place.. where I used to live, good tinting with a lifetime warranty was about $200 - $250.. but it was garaunteed for the life of the car, no matter who owned it, not to peal, bubble, etc.

They have made DIY tint for as long as I have been driving (about 14 years now sadly... ) and before that, but it isnt always an easy job, especially on the back window. The compound curve of most back glass means you have to peice the tint on.. making it very hard to get it right. Then you have to worry about it bubbling down the road. Also, a lot of cheaper DIY tint will turn a nasty purple over time. It is well worth the cost to find a shop that uses a good quality tint and is willing to give you a warranty on it (a long one.. if they cant warranty it for a LONG time.. I wouldnt trust the materials they use)

I can always tell when I see a car with DIY tint.. it always has bubbles and what not...I'd say spend the extra money and get it done professsionally.

If you live in Southern California and want your windows tinted from a reputable shop that uses a quality film that offers a lifetime warranty, expect to pay $200+. I paid $259 for my tC (hatch, and the four side windows). The shop I went to uses Forumula 1 films, and I got an all metal film with a lifetime guarantee. Its expensive, but its worth it. Their cuts are as clean as can be, no bubbling, and I'm protected for life against cracking, peeling, fading, bubbling, and it turning purple.

The $99 jobs that stereo shops do just don't cut it. They use crappy films and they don't apply them that well. Remember, you get what you pay for. As someone said before, I'd rather have no tint than crappy tint.

I am in the East coast and sputtered metalized tint cost 175 with lifetime guarantee. Standard tint was only 100. Final product = priceless.

If you want to try doing it yourself for the hell of it........go for it. But as you mentioned before you aren't in the position to "risk" it and possibly waste money. Just get it professionally done whenever you can. If not now, then it will be worth the wait.

Good luck,

Jess

Installing tint requires a little more finesse.
