Emblem painting opinion?
So I know everyone is going to have a different opinion on this but I would like to get some input. ScionLife has given me some awesome input on what I should and shouldn't do so I don't look like an idiot in the past, so thats why i'm checking with all you tC people before I make the move
. I tried searching all over the forum for pics of my idea, or thoughts about my idea, but couldn't find anything. Thats why I started a new thread.
I have a 2007 Black Sand Pearl tC with red and black rims, smoked 09 tails and smoked mirror signals, 09 headlights with HIDs, my point is, it looks very clean and classy, yet sporty.
I'm thinking about painting my rear emblems red. The Scion logo and the tC logo both. They'd be professionally painted and finished, OEM quality guaranteed by the guys over at Figure Grilles (i'm also getting a gloss black figure 4 piece grille set from them as well). I LOVE red and black together, its my favorite.
So i'm thinking it'll either look really really good or really really cheesy. I would normally just do it, and if it looks stupid i'd take them off and put OEM ones back on. The reason I can't is because Figure Grilles is charging me $200 shipped, flat rate, for two new tC logos (one for on the back hatch and one for on the front new gloss black grille), and for one scion hatch logo all professionally painted red. So thats 3 brand new OEM factory professionally painted red emblems, for $200 (which I think is really steep by the way, but they say the reason is because that trunk hatch logo is a pain in the butt to paint because they have to tape off the letters somehow so the letters are black and the rest is OEM quality looking red). $200 is a lot to throw away on a "hope" that it'll look awesome.
Also I am willing to pay the 200 because I think it could look good and sporty, yet still classy and subtle, and I tried painting the hatch one red myself and it turned out to be a DISASTER. All you Fail Inc people woulda had a field day with me if you saw what I did to it, I had to buy a whole new emblem (which was 40 from the dealer, ouch).
Opinions are all welcome, but please don't be too harsh on my idea because it's just a thought. At least i'm checking with you guys instead of just doing it and driving it around like a ricer loser for years and not even realizing how dumb I look
.
Thank you all!

so you are going to pay 200 for 3 little emblems to get painted? that is home much it cost to paint like a front lip. That is absolutely insane! There is no way having some emblems match is worth that much.
But if you want to keep your theme red might look good.

i would never pay that much to get emblems painted. the color idea isnt bad though. i don't really see how you can mess up painting emblems yourself. if i were you i would just rattle can them all red, clear them, then use a black paint pen to fill in the "scion" letters on the logo.
It cost me $250 to get my whole lip kit painted and i brought them all my emblems to paint flint mica with the left over paint they had.

$200 is way to much... I painted my SCION logo on the back Flat Black for around $15 Sand it, Primed it and sprayed. I also painted the tC logo Chrome Red but I did not like it one bit. It looked cheesy to me.

It's not really the price i'm concerned about guys. I look at it like, they're providing the new emblems, which they have to buy from the dealer for a little over 100. So they're only charging me 90 shipping included for painting. That still seems like a lot, but at the same time, I'm paying for quality. These are professionals that sand blast, paint and polish the emblem a certain way. I don't want it to look anything less than OEM, the black letters cant be put in with a paint pen and the slightest bit of red and black can't be out of place. It has to be perfect, as if scion made a release series with these emblems. Scion wouldn't make an RS with anything less than perfect OEM quality emblems right? Thats how I am looking at this project.
I wouldn't do it. I agree with the majority; what they're charging you is absolutely absurd. If you don't care about throwing $200 away on three emblems, then something is wrong.
And if you paid $40 for ONE emblem from the dealership, something is wrong with you again.
McGeorge Parts has ALL THREE emblems for $55.04 without shipping.
I BET you the people over at Figure Grilles KNOW how to get the emblems for cheap, and they are charging you MSRP on it, making another buck on you.
If you care so much as to have them painted PROFESSIONALLY, buy the three emblems yourself for $55 and go to a local shop and they will paint it for you and will WARRANTY their work! I bet you will walk away well under $200.
There are ways to go around your inability to paint right, and going through Figure is not the correct way. Personally, if they quoted me $200 I would have exploded on them. In fact, I wouldn't even buy a grille off of them because they are so ridiculous. I would go elsewhere for a grille. They are not worth your time or your money.

Okay I get it you guys, you disagree with the price. Whether you think i'm insane or not isn't the point of my thread. If you wanna gripe about the price or call me crazy, please feel free, but at least at the bottom after your griping, add your opinions on how you think it would look. That is the point of my thread after all. My money is my money, and if you think i'm throwing it away, let me, you all warned me very fairly, now can you all give your opinions on LOOKS? Thank you.
idk ive always thought of emblems being painted kinda ricey IMO.. i think the only exception when it looks not ricey is when for example change the letters in the scion badge from black to silver and the actual emblem black, but i think the best look is badgeless. especially when getting tickets cops who dont know your make just put "Scion" under model when the make says "Scion" too lol my cars also had "nissan" under the tickets lol but yeah thers my $.02
lol @ this thread. the emblems can be bought for less than $20 each at McGeorgeParts.com. $19.50 for the front, $16.70 for the rear & $18.84 for the tC emblem.

price may not be the problem for you, but its just pretty stupid to spend that much for painting 3 small emblems. Its a emblem for crying out loud, its not going to make your tC look any more "sporty, yet still classy". all you need to do is sand properly and paint. should be no more than a $20 job.

So how do you think it would look?
you shouldnt of posted the price figure grilles is charging you for 3 little emblems to be painted and make them look "OEM" like you keep saying... you are going to get repeatedly bashed upon about how much you're spending to have the emblems painted, and no one is going to answer your question. if i wanted to get some emblems painted desperately like you do, then i would just go to a junk yard and get them off a tc there take them to a paint shop so it can be done PROFESSIONALLY and buy some 3M tape and slap those suckers on and call it a day!
to me, it makes no sence to pay that much for what you're getting, but it is your money and if you think it will look better, then go ahead and do it... i would just leave the back shaved off and get the "tC" logo painted and put that on the front grill. thats what i would do if i had your car.
it may or may not look good until you get it done and put them on and see for yourself. IMO i dont like it...even less for how much you are going to spend, but you do it if you think it will look nice since it is your car and your money. i havent seen the logos painted on a tC so i cant really tell you if it will look good or not. just do it and post up pics...

Ya man, instead of waiting for someone to tell you it will look good, do it and find out. If the moneys not an issue than take them off if you dont like them. I had them painted black on my black tc, and liked it. Its all up to you man. what moves you?

I actually thought about just getting the red tC logo on the new upper grille, taking the back tC logo completely off, but then I can't have a silver scion logo on the back hatch. It not only would look stupid, but my OCD would be off the charts. I don't even know how to do the "shaved" look but I wouldnt want to anyway, I kind of like having a scion emblem there. Just not silver and black. It should be red and black, to match the one on the grille.
Either way, i'm not looking for financial advice from anyone. Its my money, and you should all worry about your own finances. I ONLY want opinions on looks. You've all made it quite clear you disagree on the price, and I understand your frustrations, but as they say, you all are beating a dead horse.
If you all are going to continue talking about the price, at least tell me a better option. Don't tell me to do it myself because I said I freakin' cant, I don't know how to make that much clearer. Don't tell me to buy used emblems, because I don't want used ones from a junkyard. Don't tell me to just walk into any car paint shop with three emblems in my hand and ask a stupid question if they can paint them for me. They're just car detailers, they'd probably have a panic attack and have to find managers, and figure out some cheap price, but not having any idea how to even DO it, or just laugh at me and say no. Tell me a way they'll be glossy, perfect OEM quality (like the red tC logo is on the picture I posted on my first post PROVIDED BY Figure Grilles) and the letters not "paint penned" in. I want it so I could say "I bought these straight from Scion" and have anyone actually believe it, and not say "Yeah whatever, those are so hand painted, the red and blacks arent perfect, there is a millimeter red drip right there on the S".
You all get it now? Thank you.
spray paint the ones you have with a few coats (Dont sand and prime), and see if it looks good
if you like it pay that outrageous amount to have them done professionally.
If you end up not liking it take some airplane stripper and get the paint off and since you didnt sand and prime you have stock emblems again

Thank you! You bashed me, but then at the end left your input and opinions. Thats all I wanted.

you should get the CF hatch garnish that doesnt come with the "scion" logo and have the rear all clean of emblems and just do the "tC" in red for the front grill...i've seen that done and it looks real nice and clean IMO.
paint shops won't laugh at you if you walk in and ask them to paint your emblems. if they want a sale, they wont laugh. but since you want it done now then just have figure grills do it for you since thats what you are going to do anyway... I'd just do the "tC" in red and put it up front but thats just me....
oh, and don't take what everyone is saying to the heart... they're just expressing their opinions and if you cant take the heat then i dont know what you are doing here...
