So, im going with the flat (matte) black theme all around my car, and i want a dull smoke on my taillights...what can i use to smoke them without having that glossy look. same thing with the side markers

 

use niteshades for the "tint".... then buy a flat lacquer or satin...... it wont be completely flat but its as close as you will be able to get it to

 

would the flat or satin be too dark for the taillights to show?

 

no nightshade is what u want for ur tails anything else that u paint use a satin black color

 

u apply the niteshades as dark as u want.... between 2-4 light coats... then use a clear flat lacquer/ satin lacquer to take away from the normal shine of the niteshades....

I think the above is worded wrong because it doesnt make sense.

 

nightshades and a shop can put a flat clear coat on for you.

so ballpark, how much do y'all think it would cost to get my taillights flat black by a shop?

 

Id say roughly $80 - 100. Id charge between 80 - 100 to tint tail lights professionally.

no my buddy's shop did, sorry to thread jack OP.. haha, but yeah i love it, it's subtle but stands out.. i need to re-shoot the matte coat though. i got it done where dieselstation got his done..

 

hrm.... maybe another coat of clear matte?

I dont know if its just the pics or what, but the surface looks uneven in some places,

dieselstation looks evenly coated all around.

 

it's because to get the matte coat you have to mix in an additive, with Jon's his was the right amount with mine it wasn't enough, so that's why it's blochy. we have to find time to wet sand it and re-shoot the coat.. but i'm always busy..

 

dude keep posting pics of the matte and you can thread jack all you want, thats awesome! exactly what i want to do to mind eventually. and iKONA, the tinting picture u posted is too glossy for me, i want it to look super dull
