Flint Mica Paint Match Problem
I'm looking for a little help. I recently purchased a Flint Mica Tc which has been in the shop almost since day one. I took delivery of the car in the evening and didn't get a good look at it. The next day at my house I noticed the rear bumper did not match the rest of the car. I took it back in to the dealership and after 5 people there all agreed with me, it got sent out to be painted. The paint shop painted it with the factory code, put it back on the car and noticed it still did not match. Now they have a Scion paint specialist on the way to see what the problem is. Im wondering if anyone else has encountered this, or if anyone has had their Flint Mica in for any body work yet and could give some advice. I've seen one other car with a non matching bumper in the Flint Mica in this area and wonder how this could have ever happened in the first place. Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.
flint mica is easier to match than white or silver.. since it's easier to blend.. talked to my body shop about that.. they said that the darker colors like flint mica are easier.. seems that the body shop they used are not that good..
you might also notice brand new tC's with bumpers that are just a hair off.. it's the "flex" that's put in the paint to make it stick to the plastic. that's what the body guy told me.. i've checked other tC's and have seen a slight, very slight difference..

Yeah I have noticed that there is a slight difference in color to begin with. But the rear bumper was probably 10 shades too light. The dealer speculated that it was damaged at the port. They painted it there, but in the wrong color. Actually a Toyota Silver that is on Camry's. The body shop is Fischer Body Refinishing, probably the most well known refinisher in Michigan, perhaps in the whole United States. This is Fischer Body that used to make GMs bodies and such for years. I think the matching problem lies in the numerous metallics or micas that are in the paint. The purple and green specks would seem hard to match to me.
Does seem strange that a new car would have a different shade in the back. Only explanation is that something was done at port. But wouldn't the port have documentation to validate that claim??
Personally I would NOT take a car that had been repainted. You were under the assumption you were getting a NEW car. The paint definitely does NOT hold up as a good as when done by the factory. So even with a repaint job, your tC is not really NEW.
I would look for the documentation that the car was repainted and then opt to try to get a new tC. Might be difficult and you might have to be a real SOB but this is your money and you bought it assuming it was a new car (inside and out).
Keep us updated. Good luck.

yeah i agree with fearturtle44.. if they had done something to the car then that's why they repainted the bumper.. by michigan law they don't have to report anything under a certain percentage of the total value of the car.. i would contact a lawyer to get another car, why settle for something that was repaired and the car is brand new? I wouldn't.. that's shady..
i had a problem with my hot lava color...
it turns out there are new pearls that the shop did not have, and the mixture percentages were slightly off...(the had to take a digital picture of the paint to analyze. then the color came out right.)
also, painting on plastic could cause the color to be off compared to metal...don't know why, but i see it a lot

I noticed a similar thing when I bought touch touch up paint form the dealer. I noticed the metel flakes in the paint to be alot smaller than the original stuff, so the paint looked alot darker once it was on the car. kinda looks like crap
This is a brand new car though, the last thing I really want is for them to blend it into the rest of the car. Might as well have the whole thing painted then. Im calling Scion this weekend to let them know my disgust over this.
well guys i work in a body shop as a painter and usually bumpers dont macth the color of the car all the time wut happen is that paint seats dife.... on plastic parts then metal but as a painter im going to tell u that who ever painted your bumper shold it sprayed a test panel and then see how the color match.............
Well after repainting my bumper, and it still didnt match, I called Scion Corp. and the dealership customer relations rep. called me the next day. They swapped bumpers for me from another Flint Mica Tc that had just come in and now it matches just fine. So the problem is taken care of and the dealerhsip went out of their way to make it right.
