The other day I am working on my car and notice moisture in my driver side fog light.
So I look closer and see that it is cracked, I guess it is from a rock or somthing,
anyone else have this happen to them?

 

Ya... it's definitely happened a few times...

RockBlocker makes protective overlays for them. I think Headlight Armor makes some too. Might want to replace it and look into one of them.

Sort of... but I don't think that Rockblocker's stuff is regular "vinyl" ... I'm pretty sure that it's quite a bit stronger. Of course if the rock is big enough, nothing will really save it (besides a grille or something for it). But little things could be stopped by a simple sheet of something.

 

I've never seen them, but for $18, I'll try it.
Funny though, the fogs are glass and pretty beefy - musta been a good-sized something that hit you...

 

I looked at them again and cannot find any chip or sign that somthing hit them ?

 

We use a thick impact resistant vinyl - 25mil in clear and 22 in colors - don't confuse them with 'overlays' made from 3mil sign vinyl

They have an adhesive backing. They can be removed in the future, but you can only apply them once.

Looks like I will be getting it fixed at the dealer tomorrow along with my sunroof recall.
lets see what they say.

 

I noticed that one of my fog light has a crack too. I went to the dealer and was told a new one is $170 . So i'm thinking of just covering both my fogs with a smoked Vinyl. I can't really justify to myself spending $170 for one light when I could buy some new component speakers or some rolls of sound deadener.

 

Warranty did not cover it ?

 

No, That kind of damage is not cover under the warranty. Its like a crack in your windshield. But if you figure out a way to get it changed under the warrrenty let me know.

 

i got headlight armor on my xb , its like 10 times thicker then normal vinyl and rubbery very good buy definatly reccomend it

 

^^^ The tC fogs have a curve to them, does the vinyl cover the curves without getting bunched up or wrinkling?

Yes it lays down real nice. As tyrantcold said, they are much thicker than sign vinyl. It is on our avatar, headlights have a bigger curve. Here is the main DIY lighting kit install page

 

Got back from dealer today.. they did not warranty it no surprise.

 

I have a crack across the entire surface of one of my fogs, and the light still shines...just ordered a pair of yellow covers from headlightarmor.com...definitely not worth replacing unless it completely breaks.
