Default Fog light help!

I bought some "JDM" fog lights off ebay (they dont have an exact name, so thats what im going to call them) and had a friend that previously installed fog lights on his tc help me. Everything when smoothly, we hooked everything up correctly, grounded all the grounds and tapped into the ignition switch to power the light switch. The problem is when we first hit the switch the fog lights came on but the harness you connect to the switch started smoking. So we quickly pulled it out and now the lights will not come on. The switch still illuminates though. My friend and I were thinking that maybe the switch went bad, or was defected and that to get another one. I was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem, or if anyone knows what caused it to smoke. (im inexperienced with electrical stuff so). If needed I could provide pics or maybe even a video of the set up. Thanks

First mistake..

i think theres more current running through the ignition..check your fuses..

if there was smoking then there was a short somewhere.

I didnt install it, my friend that installed fogs on his tc did, i only helped with various things. Ive been meaning to check all the fuses but havent gotten around to it yet. As for a short somewhere, im not sure where there would be one.

Oh but i forgot to mention why we think its the switch. When we were putting the wiring harness to the switch it looked like one of the pins was bent a little and it wasnt plugging in right. Once it finally plugged in thats when it started smoking.... so thats the only thing I can think of that caused the problem.

EDIT: Been awhile since I updated/posted on here, just wanted to let everyone know I fixed the problem (months ago lol) and it was infact just a bad switch, so if anyone ever has any fog light problems, one of the first things you should do is check or buy a new switch if you think its not working properly.
