Default Glass roof problem...HELP

I was driving home from work tonight on the interstate with the top closed. I never opened my sunroof when driving. So, just as I was about to exit the interstate, I heard a loud cracking noise from the glass roof. After I came to a stopped at a red light, I got out and saw the glass roof was cracked and shattered. The shattered part was the small front strip near the front windshield. The strip that Scion made a recall about years ago. I brought my tc in for the recall problem months ago.

So, my question, will this repair cost me anything? Also, any advice before I take into the dealership tomorrow for a argument?

I would dig up as many threads as you can from ScionLife on the subject. If it is a known problem you may not have an issue. You don't mention if you are out of warranty or not.....

is it still under warranty? and they should still be responsible for something malfunctioning like that it is a serious safety risk to you as an owner...

you shouldn't have any issues with this. if you took it in to get the film laid on your strip, that was a preventitive measure that you took that scion is aware of. remember, scion KNOWS this is an issue and thats why they made the recall in the first place.

I hoped so, because I sure don't have $$$ around to fix the problem instantly. Man, I was tempted to trade in my car a few weeks ago for another vehicle. I backed out at the last minute. I should had signed the deal. Man, I was afraid the glass roof was the first major problem for the tc before anything else.

Thanks

I'll keep ya informed on the situation.

I just got a chip in the main glass (sliding) on my car last week. What Scion needs to do is have Rock Blocker or Lamin-X pre-installed from the factory.

Just came back from a dealership in my area. They claimed a rock popped up and had hit the wind deflector. They blamed the rock as a cause of the problem. They refused to cover it with the warranty. Also, they showed me where the rock had impact the glass.

However, there was nothing I could had done to prevent the rock from hitting the glass while the vehicle was moving. Also, I was unable to see the rock at night. My argument was that anything could easily cause the glass to shattered. I just called the headquarter and they planned to talk to the dealership to compromise for the problem. I would be more reasonable if I had my sunroof opened while I was driving. This really put a bad image on Toyota because they knew the glass on a Scion tc was an issue. Also, Toyota/Scion knew how easily the glass could had shattered.

that was smart to take it to headquarters because dealerships try to f*ck everyone over so that they can make money rather than make none on a recall or warranty fix.

Dealerships are con artist. I went to another dealership to see the situation was any different. This one claimed the repair would cost at least $800. The first dealership claimed the repair would cost $455. What in the world do they get these figures? Same repair, but dealerships resulted in such a major difference in cost. Talk about rippin people off.

What good is a warranty on a vehicle if dealerships turned down almost any problems with their excuses to get owner to cough up money for the repairs?

unfortunately this falls under the road hazard category. the breakage was not a result of manufacturer or design defect, and the recall work places a film on the glass to keep shards from flying into your face, not to prevent it breaking altogether. i'm not saying it's your fault the glass is broken, but it's somthing that as the driver of the car you have to assume responsibility for.

How is this Toyota/Scion's fault? Did you not know glass can break when you bought the car. Should they also pay when a rock hits your windshield?

x2

Scion has crappy protection, the paint is weak, i have so many chips, and it appears the windows are weak too.

What i don't understand why they don't cover it, apparently they didn't do the recall fix properly, so it is the dealers fault.

I will say, my dealer is the best, they do everything, its all covered, I have only had to pay once, and that was for half an hour of labor, when it took 3 hours, only because i cant plug a fuse in apparently.

But i am happy to pay my dealer, because they do things right.

P.S.: Scion Corporate is one of the best around, they get things done when something isn't going right.

Scion headquarter was willing to reimburst 50% of the repair cost. Should I take the offer or go for the 100% reimburstment?

Same thing happened to me a few months ago....my post is still somewhere on here. Since it was the second time it happened, they refused to cover it, even though the customer service rep said it would be covered. They said it was a road hazard and that they shouldn't have fixed it free the first time since I have an '06. They said it would be $675 to get it fixed. The glass costs $299.....and the install is only 1 hour, so they want $376 per hour for labor. I went to a body shop and got it all done for $365.
