Default Going from new to old headlights

I have a quick basic question. I want to put the older headlights in my 08 tC when I get it in a few months. I wanted to know if I was correct in assuming these few things:

- All the bulbs are the same except for the lowbeams which are H11 on the 08's and 9006 on the older tCs.

-Will I be able to just unplug and replug the bulbs that are the same into the headlights I put in?

-For the H11 to 9006, I know I could but an HID kit with an H11 harness and 9006 bulbs, but could I also buy a 9006 harness and simply wire it to the H11 harness?

Thanks guys.

you will have to hardwire it... but its a good idea to do so anyways cause you should wire up some relays so you dont go and smoke your factory lighting harnesses ... cause thats not too much fun...

Would it be prone to smoking the stock harnesses? Do 9006 bulbs draw more power?

the HID kits tend to draw a lot more power that your factory halogen bulbs... so when you draw more power through a wire rated for a lower power handling... you tend to have problems... maybe not at first... but it will most likely happen...

i always do this when we install HID's.. cause i have seen the hell that is fried electrical all the way to the fire wall.... and its no fun to fix it...

Just put HID into my '08 projectors. I wonder why you would want to switch to the older housing that has reflectors and run HID? HID looks and works so much better with the projectors with less glare.

*edit* When I saw how small gauge the wires to the stock H11 bulbs were I definately went with the relay setup.

I don't wanna run the HIDs in the old headlights.

I don't liek the look of the 08 projectors, so I want to use the older headlights with halogen bulbs. I just want to know how to go about getting a 9006 bulb to work with the H11 stock harness.

Is it safe to just splice the 9006 connectors with the H11's?

I would just cut off the H11 connectors about 1/2 to 1 inch back from the plug itself in case you want to switch back. Splice in the 9006 connector by soldering and using some quality heat shrink tubing.

Nice, thanks eltaco. That's what I thought I could do.

Would just splicing work too? Or would it be better to just cut off and rewire?

I'm kinda scared I'll cut it off and then the 9006's wont work, resulting in no headlights :nervous:

Thanks for moving this where it can get more attention squallheart

davedave I will be getting an 08 FM in July. I am swapping out the headlights and taillights for the older oem styles :D I'm trying to get all the parts I want now, that way when I get the tC I can swap out all the parts and have it modded from day 1. I still need some springs, maybe coilovers, and some new grilles. Not to mention some clazzio seat covers and misc other shxt.

I'm crazy haha. The 08's will be for sale fer sure. :D

Wow, usually people are switching out their old headlights for 08's. Oh well, whatever you like. You should be fine doing what Eltaco said....or consider just doing a non permanent tap in case you ever change your mind.

This is retarded. I'd much rather deal with the uglyness of the 08 headlights and still get to drive behind projected HIDs, than have halogen reflectors. The difference is just remarkable.

It's only retarded because you don't agree...

I don't like the look of the 08 projectors. They look cheap and ricey, that is my opinion. I prefer the older style headlights, not to mention tail lights.

With the money I get from selling the 08's I could get the s2000 projectors retrofitted into the old headlights down the line, and have it look way better.

Thanks expresScion, I think I'll just tap, that way I can always revert in case something happens.

If you do a retrofit, then . However, up above you said you were going to use halogens in the stock housing, so I was led onto that you were just going to leave them the way they are. Btw, my tails are going to be the first thing swapped off the car.

See I don't drive much at night anyway, and I'm used to running silverstars so it won't bother me much. I don't want to do the HID conversion because of the glare it would have.

I wish I could just get a damn 07 new.

I didn't like the lights at first, but after I put in my 5000K HIDs, it made a huge difference. I still hate the turn signal, I wish they just left it as the triangle in the corner.

Yeah, I actually like them a lot on white, since the black contrast. I don't feel they look as good on the FM and BSP though.

Driving behind them is such an improvement. I went from 05 w/ 6000K HID to 08 halogens, and it was better..then I put in the 5000K and holy crap lol.

Oh and don't forget to swap out that grille, .
