Halo superwhites vs stock bulbs?
I know the subject of bulbs has been done to death, but I've searched and can't really definitive answers to any of this.
From looking at the manufacturer websites, it looks to me like the Halo Superwhite (5000k) bulbs at 55W are one of the safest to use in the tC without fear of harness damage. Their website says this, and the fact that Scion dealers sell them seems to back that up.
What I'm wondering though, is how they compare to the stock bulbs as far as light output/illuminating the road. Low beams are what I'm most interested in since there's always oncoming traffic around here. I'm not interested in my lights having a blue, purple or yellow tint, I just want them to light the road well.
Anyone who's using this color temp. of Halo bulbs have an opinion on how the light output compares to stock? I've read as the color temp. increases the output decreases, but wondering how these ones stack up?
Thanks!

Stock will have more light output. i have the platinum whites and stocks are brighter. if you want something whiter and still has good output, go with SilverStars. I had those before switching to Halo's and still carry a brand new set as a backup in my trunk.
piaa xtreme whites are good, and from what i've seen on here the halos are just whiter, not brighter and therefore actually provide less visible light than stock. but if you want to go with that HID look, then go for it.
I just recently bought the Halo Super White's.
The colour is great. It has a hint of blue that stands out when
you look at it on the road when travelling. Honestly, I kind of
believe that these new ones give me more light.
The numbers and details are set that technically, the stock ones
are brighter. But I still think my HALO's help me even more.
You don't have to listen to me cause in reality I'm wrong, and
I already have early signs of Glaucoma.
I commute from Lake Perris (Riverside, CA) to L.A. (70+ miles)
on a daily basis and I'm usually driving at night between
12:30AM - 2:00AM.
The reason why I changed my bulbs is because pretty much the
road conditions out here are horrendous and there's pretty much no
lighting on the streets. I have to dodge crater sized potholes that are
hidden by the darkness and shadows.
Another factor that I'm believing my HALO's are brighter is because
I just replaced my factory foglight bulbs with NOKYA Hyper Yellows.
And let me tell you, those suckers are bright as hell. That may be the
reason why I might be getting better output.
Here are some pictures...
*Note: my Hyper Yellow fogs aren't installed yet.
Facing you.
stock's are left, HALO's are right.

In-car view.
Halo's left, stock's are right.

Outside view.
Again, Halo's left, stock's are right.
(my car is half-way into my garage coming from a slanted driveway,
so pretty much my lights are aiming upwards to the wall. Just close
your eyes and think of that hitting the ground.)

Hope this kind of helps when you choose what to buy.

Thanks ryphlex, I think I'll stare at these pics for a while and try to decide :D
The Halos look whiter and brighter, but seem like they illuminate a smaller/lower area.
This is probably completely wrong but from that pic I'd guess that the Halos are better for distance and the stocks are better for more and wider light closer to the car?

respond, ha.
Kind of funny that you mentioned that.
Tonight when I was driving, I was thinking about this topic, so I tried
to pay attention to detail about these bulbs and how they light up
the road. For some reason, they do illuminate the ground surface
much more efficiently from what I noticed about the stocks. I don't know
why, it could be me again, but I think they do. I'll take some pictures
tomorrow on how they hit the road surface.
It's kind of opposite of what you previously said, the whole thing
about how they are better for distance and not closer to the car.
I think that they are better for closer proximity, and less for visual
distance ahead.
I'll take some pictures and you can decide for yourself.

Thanks again for the info/advice, it's much appreciated!
Sorry for the late response my friend.
Been busy with a lot of things the past couple days.
Anyways, I took some picture's last night. Although I couldn't
really find any pitch dark places, I found some spots that were
fairly dark. Just enough to show off the lights.
The following have the Halo Super White's and I have my
Nokya Hyper Yellow fogs installed.
Outside frontal view.

Outside, up close shot of the ground.
You can easily tell between the lights.

Hope these kind of give you the picture on how they illuminate.
The pictures really don't give the lights justice. There were too many
street lights around. I'll try to take better ones.

With my halos, signs are much brighter and whiter. I love it! Although they're not as bright as stocks, I prefer the whiter light. This probably doesn't make much sense to many of you..But it's not like roads are dark here in San Diego...
it is said that halogen bulbs will never be white. Also noticed that there are NO halogen bulbs out there that is actually white.
The hint of blue are used to eliminate the yellow light created by halogen bulbs, so you will always have some sort of blue
that is why silverstars bulb lenses have a blue tint on it

ya hi have the silver stars after a bad experience...what ever you do do NOT buy the nokya head lights...there the same wattage but for some reason it melted the clip on my harness its oknow but sucked becuase those lights were the best..for brightness and style....
Thanks for the help guys. I picked up and installed Halo Superwhites (4500k) yesterday and I'm pretty happy with them. IMO, it lights up the road just the same, just with a whiter light. I'd post pics but Ryphlex's are pretty much on point.
Silverstars are good, but expect them to burn out quickly.
I recommend switching to a 65w 9005 bulb for the lowbeams. Just the OEM replacement high-beam bulbs in the low-beam slots. Provides around 70% more light. The lowbeam harness and the highbeam harness also appear to be exactly the same.
I've been using it for about 3 months without any problems (driving at night daily), and others have had it for at least a year.
