Default Hatch Release Melted

Hi, so my hatch release button has been getting pretty icky in the Houston heat. Every time I open it it leaves black residue all over my fingers. Finally tonight I went to open the hatch and I see that the button has actually melted.
Anyone know where I can get this replaced/fixed? I would prefer if it were a different material seeing as this one can't take Houston weather.

I think you're the second person to have posted about a melted hatch release button. Why not take it to the dealership? Do you still have the car within warranty?

I'll check to see if it's still under warranty. I wouldn't want it to be replaced with the exact same thing though seeing as it can't withstand the temperature levels here.

I'm in Port St Lucie and mine is doing the same thing... thinking on what I can do to get a different material so this does not happen again...
this sucks cause how many people are having or had problems with the plastic piece and now the button wtf... what was Scion thinking when they designed this..

I'm in CT, I went to open the hatch yesterday and my release was super sticky!

The humidity over here is killing everything.

Not sure if the tC1 Rear hatch handle/button release is the same size for the xB, but here's the sale thread if it does fit.

I just bought a used '08 a few weeks ago and just noticed that this happened. I bought it as it, so no warranty. I did however buy an extended warranty thru my Credit Union. I dropped off the Scion today and said the extended warranty does not cover this. I think that is a bunch of BS, but whatever. I plan on fixing this myself but not sure where to get the part from. Anyone have any suggestions??

Same with mine, I am from houston too. Mine doesn't want to open at all. Took like 5 tries before I could get it to open.
