Default hid question

hey guys-i'm trying to decide on a 5000k or 6000k hid setup and it's taking me forever to figure out what color to get. i've read that after a while, a hid kit will get bluer or something after u use it for a while. is that true? i don't want lights that are gonna have a lot of blue in them. i wouldn't mind just a hint of blue, but i want them to basically look white. my logic was that if they're gonna turn a little blue, then i want the 5000k because it'll only be slightly blue. if i get 6000k, they'd turn much bluer. is that right about the color changing? 6000k is perfect if it stays like that, but i wanted to check before i ordered the,. thanx

I have never heard that they get bluer as time goes on. I'd say go with 5000k if you want white, the projectors will give it a blue look.

What do you mean by a little while, do you mean like a half an hour or half a year?

will it slightly change in color? the section on color shift from the thing u posted:

"The labled light color on an HID bulb is an average that it will maintain over 2-3000 hours. After passing around 100-500 hours the phenonmen "color shift" will take place. Color will change slightly from a yellowish tone to a crisper bluer tone. The magnitude of color shift will vary depending on brand, model and rated color. It is a very gradual change and unless paid close attention to, a customer might not notice. OEM 4100K Bulbs manufactured by Philips has been reported to have a more noticeable color shift than OEM 4100K Osram. OEM 4100K Bulbs manufactured by Philips has a colorshift of approx 250K after 500 hours, which will bring it to up to 4350K"

does that happen with all hid bulbs?

^ yes, and at the sametime, you will lose half the intensity due to it.
It happens on ALL HID bulbs due to the salt particles in the bulbs that form the arc.
Anyways, about the hint of blue, let me explain it to you in simple words:
Some halogen projectors take HIDs very well giving you good results. However, the thing about them is that unlike HID projectors that are designed for HID's, Halogen projectors have a different way of spreading the light emitted from the bulb. As a result, there will not be a good spread of light but instead you will have two hot spots coming from each halogen projector.
The blue effect is caused by the bending of the light. This is clearly noticed above the cutoff. So, when your eye level is at the cutoff line(which is blue), you will see the projectors as blue instead of their true color which is white.
Here is an example of my setup:

When your eye level is at that horizontal blue line (that is called the cutoff line), you will see that color. If your eye level is above or below, you will see diamond white.

My setup is OEM tsx projectors with 85122+ Philips bulbs in case you're wondering.

awesome-thanx. also, are urs the 5000k phillips, or the 4300k? my hids are going into a retrofitted setup with e46 projectors. i like having a little of the blue, but i don't want it to be very blue. a hint of blue is fine, but i don't feel like having any issues with cops over something like this. they already harass me enough about the tints, so this is just something that would annoy them even more. if i'm gonna lose half the intensity as well, then i'm thinking of getting the 5000k because doesn't that give more lumens to begin with, although the diff btwn 5k and 6k is negligible to begin with.

well, who did the retrofit and how much did they charge you for the whole setup?
My setup is philips 85122+ which is rated at 4,200K(it is NOT 5,000K as ebay sells them as).
stanley projectors such as tsx, ls430, bentley, mdx make the output really diamond white.
But the e46 and 85122+ will make the output look yellow and the cutoff will look yellow as well instead of blue.
However, 85122+ has the most lumens out of all HID bulbs out there.
3,400 lumens vs 3,000 lumens the rest has. That's an extra 400 lumens that is equivalent to a halogen bulb intensity,
