HIDS on 08 head lights vs 07 headlights
for hids, which one puts out more light? i am not sure if i wanted to trade my 08s for 07s. since the projectors on the 08s are meant for halogen, i dont think it puts out as much light as it is supposed to. i dont know if theres a big difference on the reflectors of the 07s and the projector on the 08s. very curious, anyone care to answer?
for hids, 08s will be a way better choice. with 07s, the light will spill out everywhere, causing some major glare for other people. the 08s are, like you said, for halogen, but they do a way better job of getting rid of the sloppiness
is the light output brighter though? does the projector hinder the light as it gets projected? like for projectors, the light has to actually travel through that glass but for 07 reflectors, it just bounces out and goes through.
Projectors are better optics than reflectors. They are also better at handling aftermarket HID kits than reflectors. That being said, the best way to do it would still be HID-designed projectors. With halogen-designed ones, you won't get the propper spread and you'll end up with hotspots and some glare.
In terms of lighting, people confuse Kelvin-rating with brightness. Kelvin-rating is only a measure of color temperature, whereas lumens are a measure of brightness. The higher you go in kelvins, the lower the lumens. The most lumens are out of 4300/4500 K HIDs, they put out 3400 lumens compared to 900-1400 lumens that your stock halogens put out. 5000K are around 3200 and it goes down from there.

The glare on the 07's is rediculous. There is no cut off, and you will be flashed many times by oncoming traffic. The 08's do have a cutoff, but you have to remember, they are not made for HID's, so it will not be perfect, but it does the job. 08>07
there are no scion OEM headlights designed to work with HID kits. the 08 headlights are designed for halogen bulbs, but the style of the projector housing and the built in cut-offs make them better at focusing HID bulbs than the 05-07 style headlights with reflective halogen housing. because they have no built in cut off on the lights, the normal 9006 bulb combined with the little difuser created the cut-off for the halogen bulb, but it doesn't work for HID kit bulbs.
now, the 08 headlights won't work perfectly with an HID kit. the light pattern will not be perfect, there will be two intense hot spots, and some light pattern dispersion. but it is better than the 05-07 headligths with HID by quite a bit.

my lights are pretty bright on streets that are black, but the whiteness blends into streets with street lights. lol makes me mad not being able to tell the difference compared to 8k. 5k>8k in distance. 8k>5k in color brightness (not range)
i just installed my Mobile HID 6000K in my 08' tC....it seems to look perfect(in garage)....but have'nt got a chance to look it at night.
cutoff is great....just looks like factory halogens cutoff
i thing 08' projectors are better off bec. in 07 or lower models lights looks all over.....so i'd go with 08' projectors!!
