hid's....recommend?
so im going to be buying a hid kit soon and i cant make up my mind :/
4500k or 6000k?
personally, which do you think looks better on the tc and to the driver? im slightly leaning towards the 6000k but that could easily change.
and one last thing, my friend told me a hid kit would be illegal on my tc model (2005) because of the projector housing or something like that. after doing a search on the forum, i saw people doing a retrofit project? is that really needed? or am i ok?
im in so cal so i dont want cops pulling me over every night for my hids
thanks for any help and advice!

I don't live in socal but i have had plenty of experience w/ hids. A retrofit is expensive. and takes a lot of time and effort. So if your thinking that route, be ready to spend a couple hundred dollars.
In terms of Hids in the stock housings, they will have a lot of glare on the road, because the arc of the hid light is different than a halogen bulb, and will send some light high on the road, annoying other drivers. However, there are options..
1. Get some HID overlays from Bluebat.. he makes custom overlays for many different vehicles, including the tc, and is well renowned in the scion community. Here is the link to his site:

One of the options on that site is for HID glare, and will block out the light that shoots high on the road, stopping any glare.
2. Get aftermarket projector headlights. I have the anzo headlights on my tc, w/ halos. Everyone bashes them, because "they have problems", but me myself have never had a problem, and look fantastic (if you cover up the ugly LED eyebrow). I put HIDs in them, and have no glare on the road.
As for color HID, go 6000k. 4500k is just white, whereas 6000k has a blue tint, and looks real nice. I can show you pictures of my car if you wish.
I do one day want to do a retrofit, however don't really have the motivation or money, and actually like the style of my anzo projector headlights. Plus the halos at dusk look really cool too.
So thats what i have to say. I could keep going so if you have any questions, or want pictures, just say so. good luck with your choices.

Thanks that post helped a lot!
And I think I am going to get the 6000ks. But i'm on a budget and can only afford the hids in the stock housings for now......lol is the glare really that bad to others if I keep the stock housing?

i have 5000k HIDs from mengmotorsports.com on my 08 tC. i love it. i didn't want 6000k as im not a fan of the blue tint.

i have a picture at night of the light output but i cant seem to find it..

I found a picture of HIDs in the stock housing:
http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0011_large.jpg
Car on the left has 5000k hids, car on the right is 8000k hids. 8000k is wayy too blue for my taste. 6000k is perfect.
Here is a car with 6000k, stock halogen housing, and bluebat overlays:

And I dont know what HID kit you were planning on going with, but I can suggest this:

I just put them in my fog lights, and seem just as good of quality as my 180 dollar Mobile HID kit, for 45 shipped. and a lifetime warranty. save yourself some money

i got my hids from hidxtra. i've had them for about a year now with no problems. my mom has 6000k on her xB and i have 8000k on my tC. i've been behind many cops with my headlights on with stock 06 housings and had no problems. i say go with 6000k
and don't worry about the retro fit on your housings.

Technically HID's in any vehicle without it being stock is illegal. (however you likely won't get in trouble)
If you're between 4500 and 6000 why not go in the middle and get 5000? I mean it makes sense. I have 5000 and love it, a slight hint of blue and huge increase in visability.

Go with 6000k!!! Looks luxury and they light up the road very well. I also have projectors though. They will look a lot brighter in the 05-07 housing but I don't think you will get pulled over. Depends on the cop lol
I think 4500k will make the streets more visble than the 6000k. My friend has 5k and he shines way more than my 6k. But the 6k still shines well at nite. I live in Ontario and my stomping grounds are rowland, corona and i have never been pulled over for the stock housing hids. The only prob i have ever had (twice) has been for my tint in the 951 area.
4300K has the most luminescence. Best way to go in my opinion, even though 6K looks better. Looks isnt everything, I actually like the fact that 4300K offers more visibility. The question you should be asking is where to get the HIDs. Every company HID version looks different.
4300K if you're looking to match what automakers provide from the factory, but I really enjoy my 6000K. I wanted a hint of blue with good visibility and got what I wanted. 6000K is like a cool white. I ordered from HIDExtra.com if you don't end up buying locally they have kits right now for Scion owners for $58 Shipped just search for the thread.
I have the stock projectors that came with my 2010; and I would suggest getting a pair of projectors at some point cause they'll make the output of the HID's much more effective. Plus, the cut out line is beneficial to people in front of you and sexy!

my sister has been pulled over for her window tint (twice) and for not having her license plate. norco cops really dont have anything better to do.
well ive decided to buy the 6000k HIDs, gonna pick them up tomorrow and install them. hopefully tomorrow night ima come home from class with my new HIDs on!!!!!
Haha so true, But i bet you if you have a raised truck or some type of cowboy mobile with all the mods done to it then you will be fine.
You cant go wrong with the 4300 or 6k. You are going to be a happy camper.

I'm in the Yorba Linda/SoCal area and Brea PD is notorious for being nit-picky (they've been known to pull over for doing 45 in a 40 MPH zone), but I run 6000K in the stock '07 housings and never been pulled over... I am very careful about aiming them right, so I don't even get highbeams flashed at me from other drivers for my HID's.
I know someone that has a 2001 Accord with stock halogen headlights and they get people flashing their highbeams because the headlights were aimed too high... the aim of the headlights makes a big difference...
