Default If your ride ISN'T street legal....

I recently got my tC so it's extremely street legal now. got the tint done to the legal limit and whatnot... but now I guess i'm wondering how everybody with your super tricked out cars get to drive them about? I imagine you've got beater cars as well, but if you're driving to a show? Do you have a special permit or something?

i've only got minor things illegal on my car... red reverse light overlays, clear sidemarkers (supposed to be amber), and the biggie, an exhaust w/ no cats. Just don't drive stupidly so that you're easy to pick out and you should be good to go.

I guess the thing that i'm most curious about is the taillight overlays- i've seen some people that did the "easily removable" overlays and they were definitely chided about being pulled over- but is that a "fix it" ticket, that you don't have to pay when you get it fixed?

if your overlays still allow the light to be seen from a certain distance, there's nothing that an officer can do about it. the lighter tint shades look awesome anyways. but to answer your question, it's like window tint. It's a fix-it ticket (at leas tthat's how it is down here where i live).

I'm definately not street legal, and just do my best to be subtle enough not to get too much flack about it... most tickets just require you to fix it and go to court to get it dropped, or reduced.... there are show permits, but they require a mileage cap per year, so for daily drivers, they are a no go...

I'm going to get my tails tinted, but I bought an extra pair off ebay just in case I get flack, I can put them back to stock and then back to dark when the ticket gets cleared...

I'm by the book on almost everything... but those exterior mod restrictions just push me to be a rebel I guess...

You know what I did for the set I worked on for a friend.... I put the ballast inside the headlight housing. If you pull them apart again you will see that there is a small section along the top of the inner headlight that ballast will fit in. Then I ran the wires out of the little hole in the back of the housing which had a rubber plug on it. (I had to dremmel the the elbow piece off though, you'll know what I'm talking about if you take a look back there.) So far no problems, and I'm in WASHINGTON (rainy)

yeah. if a license plate frame covers up the state name, etc it could be fought ib court since some dealer plate frames are worse than tuner plate frames

Sure, in MN you CANNOT have any license plate frame that is not standard. No blinky lights (thank god), not plexiglass covers, etc.

And as far as only having to see the light through the overlays, I am pretty sure in some states (it should be in ALL states) you have to be able to see a good reflection of red through them. So if your tail lights are dead, they will still reflect when headlights hit them.

I know my headlights are illegal (20% tinted overlay), I know with my Megan Header blowing, my car is in violation for the time being.. I have been stopped countless times for not having a tag on the front.. and I have been told that my headlights are illegal.. but.. I dont care.. I like it, and thats whats staying. I had illegal tint, but the man got me on that..

WDS.. that is a good idea about the light housings.. I just dont have the cash flow to kick out for another pair of lights.

LOL about a street legal car.. Here lets see where I should start..
First off the tint is limoed, then the full windsheild is tinted. The rear tailights have a dark film on them. The headlights have a blue film on them. There is no airbags in the car anymore. New steering wheel. There is no cats on the car as the exhaust has been redone. Stickers on the front windsheild.. Um Im sure there is more, but I cant think of it right now. LOL

If a cop pulls you over for suspicion can he ask you to pop your hood? And lets say he pops your hood and there you have a non smog legal turbo kit, what can happen to you? (this is my main concern cuz cops can suck it when they pull people over for little bs fix it tickets)

LOL...I'm glad our police don't give us hell like some of you guys. We even have counties here that don't have emissions. So, you can run just about anything if you live in those counties.

HAHAHA... your in cali and you plan to run a non-smog turbo kit?

well if they catch you, you have to take the turbo kit off, and go to a state ref.. thats if the cop is nice, if he is an @$$ then they will impound your car.

two ways not to get caughtL
1) dont drive like an idiot
2) spray your intercooler black, and leave the stock grille on
