Default I'm getting vertical doors installed!

I'm getting vertical doors installed for cheap, so I want to make this thread and ask people who has had personal experience with vertical doors to tell me what to look for.

- Does the doors close up completely when closed? For example, does water leak into the cabin?
- Does the doors line up perfectly when closed?
- Are the struts strong enough to hold the door up for a long period of time?
- What problems should I be aware of after or before getting them installed?
- I've heard of "sagging," how serious of a problem is this?
- Would this affect my speakers, windows controls, and other controls on the doors?
- The tC's doors are pretty heavy, so would it take a bodybuilder to open the doors up?
- How much room do you get to crawl in and out of your tC?

These are all the questions I can think of right now. Please post pics for me in all kinds of positions and angles because I would like to know how mine would actually look like. I dont' want to be surprised of anything once it is already done. Thanks guys.

anyway.....

they will fit and everything right.. if it's a quality kit and installed correctly.

sagging? i'm guessing wearing of the struts.. probably not to concerned if quality is good.

it won't affect anything electrically.. the wires are still there.. just pulled out/extended to accomodate for the doors being opened differently.

and uhh... the gas struts are there to help you lift up the door... duh.. you might need help to install it though.

most kits i've seen allow you to open it up to where it usually goes to first and then lifts up... there should be no problem getting in and out of the car.

Watch to see how they roll your fenders. Make sure any areas they cut are sealed so there is no exposed metal for rust purposes. I suggest putting painters tape on the doors connecting to the body all around the door and cutting at the seam before their installed so when installed you can see where it originally lined up. and make sure your wirinng harness isnt being stretched alot of kits claim theres enough wire wich there is if you dont mind your windows and locks not working every once in awhile other than that you should be fine as long as they know what their doing!!

the doors wont open to their normal position before going up they stop about 1/4 of the way out and then go up so dont eat too many big macs before driving or you may end up using the panoramic sun roof as an entry point!!@!

I'm getting the kit from another member here on SL. He will be doing the install for me. I'm not fat, so I think getting in and out won't be a problem. I am 5'11" 195 lbs.

This is just hear say..

I have a buddy that has done a ton of these on other cars and used vertical doors. He said after a little while the door starts to sag. not sag when open but not want to close right. It will sag when it is down and not hit the striker right. He has talked me out of getting them more then once. The only other thing I dont like is you "have" to open them up. I park my car in a garage and I think they will hit the garage door when opened.

Just some other things to think about. Once again I have never used them, but wanted to pass on some info I have heard of them. Good luck, I think they look cool.

Man I've always wanted vertical or lambo doors on my tC...they look hot!! It does sound like you may run into problems though, I suppose that's a risk you take with ANY modification you make to any car. Good luck, and....by the way, where are the pics?!?! Anyone got any?

One more thing, what's the difference between vertical and lambo?

nothing really... its hte jackknife style doors. the go up and down... i tihnk true lamborghini doors open straight up without going out.... but thats what i think... (never opened a lambo)

i think they call it vertical doors because they go up and down or because of the company vertical doors inc. but the overall thing that the most important thing is that the doors go up and down.

personally i have yet to see a good lambo door on a tC because there norcal corporate car has them and they shake like a mother when the lightest breeze comes.... somethingi dont like... mehh if anything i would like someone to get rid of their glass roof an put in some gullwing doors like the old delorians. man now that would be something!

I have the Vertcal Doors Kit and the only problem I have experienced is the hydraulics do not work well in the winter. I live in Wisconsin and the hydros don't hold the Scion Tc door up which is not extremely heavy but heavy enough. This should not be a problem for those in warmer climates.

- Does the doors close up completely when closed? For example, does water leak into the cabin?

Answer - YES, they close just like stock, not an issue in the world...

- Does the doors line up perfectly when closed?

Answer - YES, but it depends on the install and type of hinge... my JTautostyle line up perfectly and I installed and adjusted them myself

- Are the struts strong enough to hold the door up for a long period of time?

Answer - YES, I have had my Doors open all day at shows without an issue

- What problems should I be aware of after or before getting them installed?

Answer - People.... they are not stock doors and require care and a tender touch... if you manhandle or slam them around.... bad things will happen...

- I've heard of "sagging," how serious of a problem is this?

Answer - It may happen, I have adjusted one of my doors one time to correct a little sag, but was do to someone slamming the door down.... so see the above question

- Would this affect my speakers, windows controls, and other controls on the doors?

Answer - All the wiring is long enough, if you disconnect some of the retention points in the door

- The tC's doors are pretty heavy, so would it take a bodybuilder to open the doors up?

Answer - The doors aren't light, but can be lifted up just fine, I only really need to lift them when I want to... there is enough room for me to get in and out daily no problem.

- How much room do you get to crawl in and out of your tC?

Answer - Not a ton, Not too little.... the passenger side seems to be more an issue than mine though, as I'm used to it.... it is definately a not daily driver friendly mod... so be aware...

All in all, it's a solid mod, depending on the manufacturer... I love my hinges and got great support from the company... the struts are your biggest weak point, but JTautostyle supports their product and replaces struts for free if they fail.... but, they won't take abuse or getting slammed around... so keep that in mind.

Any other questions, PM me and I'll help you out no problem.

I didn't think about the height when they are opened... I won't be able to park in my garage anyone if I decide to get these down the road.
