Default insurance policies???

when you mod your tC, what do you tell your insurance company? or do you tell anything at all??? if i were to get (which i'm planning to) s-techs, underglow, and lots of interior lighting, as well as CAI after the holidays hopefully, do i need to let the insurance company know or something? so that IF there was an accident, it would all be covered or what? i don't understand how it works. i've searched, and even asked the parents, but they just don't know either. and also, it doesn't void the Scion warranty does it??? thanks

most insurance companies only will cover up to $1000 in extras, maybe less. that's from past experience. if u get into a wreck, take out everything u can before they take the car.

You can pretty much do whatever you want to your Scion and it won't void your warranty from what I've been told. Before I got mine I planned on gettin Megan Racing Headers and I asked the dealer about it. His exact words, "No it won't void the warranty, unless it causes you to say blow a piston and if an engine check proves that the header did it you have to pay for it. If your piston blows and the engine check shows that the header DIDN'T make it blow then we'll replace it." But I would still ask your dealer about anything you do to the car, I doubt gettin a CAI would hurt the warranty since they sell a TRD one but still check. About the insurance man I have no idea I would tell them so its covered but it might jack the insurance up the more you do to the car so you might want to ask someone who's done this before lol. Hope I helped a lil man g/l.

you also might want to keep what your upgrades are on the hush from the insurance company. they might view it as more of a theft risk.
i had a 1992 civic and my insurance was about the same price i am paying for my tC.

If you tell your insurance company you have aftermarket parts in your car, they are going to require pictures to prove that you have the parts installed, and installed correctly. Your insurance will go up. If someone steals the radio out of your car, your radio will be covered under theft, and they will pay out.

Of course, this is assuming your deductible is 0
If not, you would pay the deductible, and the insurance would pay the rest

Youre better off buying an alarm system then paying the insurance companies.

Many insurance companies will not insure body kits that are illegal - [too close to the ground]. For obvious reasons. And of course, depending on the insurance company, they may refuse to insure any addition to the car.

As far as a cold air intake - theres no reason to tell your insurance about this. They aren't going to pay for a new engine and labor if you hydrolock
