kaminari body kit fitment question
yea i got that same issue. I have their old school fiberglass ones. And after 2 years they are beyond repair. Been needing to upgrade to urethane ones but unfortunately they would'nt cut me a deal. Couldn't believe that. Lame
I had this issue and what I did with my front bumper was sand the tabs down on the bumper... The Kaminari bumpers are heavier than OEM and thicker. As far as the corners not lining up I just took a heat gun and got the urethane really hot until I could mold it to any position I wanted it. I held it in the right spot until it cooled and everything fit fine. For my back bumper I took Kent panel bond and put in the clips so it would not pop out anymore.

Oh I completely agree... I would expect fiberglass not to fit, but the urethane bumpers on the other hand should have been a direct replacement. I can understand maybe a little sanding on using a dremel in some spots... but for a very well known company like this the bumpers should fit perfect.

Now, on to the information that you are all seeking...
After spending my own free time over the last few week tinkering with this "problem" you guys are having, I have this advice for you...
These photos show the rear driver side of the bumper. These clips are in fact a little thicker than stock bumpers, but as we advise professional installation, any competent body guy will be able to see IF the factory clips are not securing the bumper skin properly, the bumper tabs simply need to be sanded down a little thinner and extra care must be taken to align everything perfectly. These clips are a pain, but it can be done...

As all cars are assembled slightly different from one to the next, your factory clips may be set small fractions of an millimeter different across the production line, so expecting to have to sand the tabs or even dremel the holes out slightly to align the tab to the clip is perfectly normal.
The weird thing is, tC owners are the only ones that have issues with these clips when in fact, the Toyota Celica uses the same clips and we build our Celica kits with the exact same tolerances...I have never heard from any Celica owners about this "problem".
Bottom line with all of this is, the parts will fit properly, some of you may have to finesse them in the aforementioned ways to get them to fit perfectly, but this is the world of the aftermarket custom parts. As a final note, purchasing a complete set of the clips from the very start will also make things easier as the factory clips are easily broken during removal of the factory bumper skin.
I will do what I can to get a tC in our shop ASAP and do a full install on it and photos journal the installation process and show how to make everything fit...
ok....so how does one keep a bumper from popping out? My front fits perfectly fine into the clips, problem is when I drive, they dont stay. minus adding an epoxy to keep it there, I dont see how to keep it from popping out all the time. So I'm not sure what the solution to this "problem" would be.
