LED MODIFICATION TO THE TURN SIGNAL MIRROR LIGHTS!
Hey guys!
I know it has been done before but I have seen countless issues with leds burning out, taking a crap etc... I did some looking and a lot of testing and found the original size leds for the turn signals in super freakin bright colors! With these leds, you do not have to solder in resistors or other annoying things. You simply remove the old, scar up the surface with deep scratches to make the solder hold and stick and then solder these leds to the surface. They are crazy bright! They are also made to run at a slightly higher voltage 3.5-3.8V than the standard 3mm - 5mm leds everyone was useing. These will not die a quick death like those. Also they have two solder contacts per anode and cathode so they are held onto the metal quite a bit better than the little wires of the smaller leds... If soldered on correctly, these leds should last as long as the oem LEDs
First up... You have to cut the housing in half useing either a dremel or whatever you choose. I used a hot knife on this set as my dremel died a horrible death cutting carbon fiber "carbon dust got into the motor and nuked it" Anyways, no worries about any scarring. All of that is hidden behind the mirror. If you use a hot knife, just snap off the slag on the plastic. This is what it looks like cut away

Next up, take a pair of pliers and snap off the old rivited on LEDs....

Then you will scar the metal using somthing very sharp or abrasive. I prefere a pick tool and cut many many deep scarring ruts in the metal for the solder to get into. Looks nasty but it is functional.

Then take the new LEDs....

And solder them in place in series just like the oem leds.

When the soldering is done and the slag is chipped off the plastic, clean the surface of the plastic with rubbing alcohol

Take clear silicone RTV and apply a thick layer around the housing. press on the clear lense and mash it into the silicone. Any that squirts out, just rub off with your finger and whipe on the ample supply of papertowels you have on your desk.. that I forgot to mention you will need
It helps to put the turn signals back on your car after you whipe off the silicone and align it by eye. Once it is back on the car, snap on the mirror cover so you can insure perfect alignment of the turn signals to keep the oem look... Let them dry overnight on the car. Then plug them in.

Then enjoy the freakin sexy white almost HID look of your new signals! This mod may be illegal is some states and definitly illegal in cali were anything you can do to a car is illegal. I do NOT recommend red or blue leds as you may get jail time for the mod instead of a ticket. I do stock these LEDs in white, blue, green and red for any other projects you may have in mind! One of these babies is about the same brightness as a superbright leds model w6led dome light bulb. Very intense light. Price for 4 of the leds you will need from me runs $6.00 + $4.50 shipping via priority mail. Feel free to add any other led or gauge cluster swap parts or kits you want and shipping does not increase. Enjoy!

Yeah these 21" widescreens at 1650 res just don't cut it anymore. guess you figured out that you needed to resize that one image... everything's fixed now.
good writeup, i was thinking about doing this myself in the future, thanks!

Also the color is pure white. The cam makes it look more blue but in person it looks like a set of hid's... the white spectrum of them....

This is as close to oem as you will get unless you want to buy the equipment to mount them back into the housing the same way oem does, I doubt you will care since you have to chop open the housing anyways

yeah.. i know... i was just remembering the hours of searching for white snapleds way back then... lol....
superflux work the best for this application since, from my knowledge, they don't really make white snaps...
i was hoping to open this thread with something crazier in mind, i guess. sorry.

And as you found, they do not make white, green or blue snapleds as they were specifically designed for automotive applications for all the crazy shapes and mounting options. They only make them in amber - red. Superflux is our only correct option in this case.
What PERFECT timing, I was just about to order my 5mm LEDs right now but decided to stop by scionlife before ordering them, just my luck!
But my question is how do I buy these? Im looking on your web sight and I cant find them. Should i just PM my info.
Thanks
