Low quality paint from factory
hey guys question.
i bought my 2008 flint mica in august and just drove it through the winter, and have tons of rock chips in the hood and fenders even the front window pillars. i have a car from 94 that looks just a bit worse than this. Has there been issues of bad factory paint jobs on our cars, because this just seems ridiculous?
Thx for the help in advance,
should i tell this to my dealer?

Yeah welcome to owning a Scion. They all have crummy paint. My 90 accord had better paint when I got rid of it. My car looks like somone sand blasted it in the front.
Sorry man but thats one of the drawbacks of the Scion's.

lots of cars have different qualities of paint.

that guy used to work with me, and in person the paint job on this car is AWESOME, and more astonishing, it is the original paint from the factory. i thought for a car over 18 years old, he had had it repainted, but he said nope, still the original paintwork.
sure made my ssm tc look like crap! lol, but they are just totally different classes of cars.

I dont know if scion really does have low quality paint because one if you look at the prices it costs to mix some of those paints especially fm, bsp, and the blue colors its pretty steep as far as stock paints go. The clear the factory uses also is real good stuff. Ive driven my scion before I painted it allot on the highways and only saw one little nick on the top of the quarter panel where it reaches over the doors. If your driving behind a truck on the highway or any street in that fact. The rocks between the streets and the trucks tires also taking speed into this. Most cars would have chips. I try to avoid highway driving as much as possible. If its 2 hrs compared to 1.30 hrs on the highway then id rather take 30 more min to keep the paint nice. If some of those little pebbles can shatter sun roofs and windshields then I'm sure they can cause a little nick in 2mm thick paint.
Wax your cars!
Stay off the highway!
If your on the highway stay away from trucks!
Stay away from trucks and big cars all together!
Stay off of gravel roads!
and wax your car again. Weekly if you can. You want to be able to butter toast off of your fenders.

I guess I'm the only lucky one haha. I have an 05 xB that has 68,000 miles on it and I havnt seen any chips yet. I also crashed it into a snow bank for fun one time screwing around in the pk lot behind my house and no damage what so ever. Then I pk it in the garage to keep it safe and a 2x4 leaning against the wall gets blown over and puts a dent in the fender
My SW tC made it for 30k miles without any substantial rock chips on it. I just kept it waxed and was careful where I drove it. But I don't live somewhere where the roads are often sanded, so I'm sure that helps too.
