Luminics Fry.. Why Dont Silverstars?
Ok quick question and I've searched for about 30mins reading over all kinds of threads on scionlife reguarding luminics bulbs frying the harness but have not read any on silverstars frying the harness..
The question is.. why do luminics bulbs fry the harness but silverstars dont even though they are both 55w or do they fry?
Any information reguarding this would be helpful as I'm sure others would like to know the answer as well.
Also whats the average lifespan of a silverstar bulb?

I dont know if this answer is correct. But I read somewhere that it has to do with the fitment. Something to the fact that some luminics dont fit tite in the harness so there is alot of electricty playing around in there.
Dont hold me to this tho.
I have the silverstars and love them. They are DOT approved, cheap and safe. Mine have been good for 2 months. And I never turn my lights off. I always have the switch turned to on and just have the lights go off with the car. So I would say they last a long time.

^^actually.. the silverstars pull 55W also... only the stock bulbs pull 51W... wattage is the same for luminics and silverstars.. like the poster mentioned.
i believe it's the fitment also that causes it... if it's not a tight fit... there's gonna be arcing and sparking... and eventually.. kaput.

9005: 65W
9006: 55W

So the silverstars wouldnt fry the lowbeam or high beam? or is it just the low beams that seem to be ok. Id rather not have to deal with luminics if the case is that neither would fry for both high and low.

i've had silverstars before for both... harnesses were fine.. they lasted me only a year though before they blew (my low beams), but some people have had better luck..
and yes... i'm not stupid.. i didn't touch the bulb.
as for luminics... i always hear about someone frying their harnesses with them..

hmm.. very odd.. and weird... i think the silverstar's box says 55W too... i remember seeing that... but the bulb casing itself saying 51W? i dunno....
never really noticed that... and i don't have a set of bulbs to look at either at the moment..

^^That is very true. Sorry this got heated, I don't mean to disrespect anyone. I am completely honest in saying that both the SS bulbs I bought say that as they came in the double package from Wal-mart. I always was under the belief that all A/M's were 55W, and when I read the tC manual and saw 51W, I double checked and sure enough, 51 on the silverstars.
The stock bulbs that came with my tC are actually in my S-10 right now.
Also, in my S-10, i had bulbs that had a nice light, called Blue-Zone, made by seltek. The packaging said 55W=100W.
Those burned up a harness in my s-10 as well, and I made a new harness that used better grounds and power from the battery using a relay.
Plain and simple advice, I wouldn't use anything other than OEM or top-notch OEM Replacements
