okay so some background im in the republic of panama on a study abroad program and while im here im participating in a ocean to ocean cayouco(4 person canoe) race. well i was talking with some friends on how to make our boat faster when we started talking about paint:
apparently there is this paint(same stuff they use on jet planes) they sell that is smoother than ice im talking noo drag (or some very very small percentage) , this stuff makes your boat zip through the water and i got to thinking.
i wonder what this stuff could do on a tC, at first i thought, no wouldnt make much of a difference, but then again.....
for the theorist...any suggestions, comments?

Well, it sounds like an awesome idea in theory. I just have a few questions. How many coats do you have to use? Is it an enamel paint? How thick does the paint have to be applied to be effective? If it would make the car heavier wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

i highly doubt you would notice any difference. the drag from a car isn't created by its paint, but by its body shape and features.
as i'm sure you know, water is much denser and has a higher surface tension friction than air. ie. its much easier to travel through air than water.
hope this helps.

i dont think it needs alot of coats seeing as we were thinking about puting it on our boat and weight isnt a positive in any race no meter the vehicle. but im trying to find the site we were looking at, i think the real "problem" would be the price that snit is expensive

Bogus on the jets.
My brother is a pilot and said the the thing that helps use less fuel is keeping the planes clean.
The paint doesn't change the speed whatsoever.
Do you know that stealth bombers and fighters are painted with flat black "rubber" to put it in terms one can grasp. It's one of the fastest planes out there and the "paint" is not at all slippery.
Give it up.

Have you ever seen the paint up close on a typical comercial commuter jet. They're beat to hell. pealed paint and bare metal around the doors. I got on an American Airlines flight not to too long ago and the top of the jet way wasn't pulled all the way down, you could see where they painted right over all the old TWA logos.

Now if only we can get the paint used on stealth fighters that apparently absorb radar waves so our cars can be impervious to those damn radar guns, now that is an idea to think about.

The paint they put on airforce jets, is for stealth to minimize radar profiles.
And no, NONE of us can afford it. Or buy it. Its a controlled item that is not available to buy.

As do the jagged edges on all the leading edges of the cockpit, wings, etc.
It wouldn't match my new rims, so screw that
