Default New Blue STOCK tC Rims

I only use my stock wheels for AutoXing these days, and since I no longer run in a stock class, I decided to paint my wheels. I was going for a polished lip look. BTW, I did a very crappy job. I was in a hurry to have them dry for today. I did this from 7-10 last night, mostly in the dark with only light from my headlights. They actually turned out rather nice looking aside from how poorly they were masked off, and the paint peels easily because I didn't really prep them. I'm going to repaint them later on and do it much better.

Wrapped in garbage bag and masked off (somewhat):

After two coats of blue:

After 3-4 coats of clear:

Mounted on car at today's AutoX:

Just thought I'd share.

not too sure i like the color but i like the creativity. im gonna do the same thing to my stockers as soon as find some good black/gunmetal paint.

No, I didn't paint the inside of the rims. I just gave them a quick once over so they'd look decent at speed from a distance. I was going to do black, but ended up trying out Metallic blue. I'm really not all that into the color. I didn't want to do gunmetal because my street rims are nearly that color. (See pics below)

A friend suggested doing a black base coat, then only putting blue on the outer edge / flat part of the rims. Once I decide on a color scheme I'm going to paint them correctly. I'll either sand them myself, or get them sand blasted and start with a clean slate.

i didn't think the color was too bad, and i like the idea. red would probably look nice.

Yeah, one of our club members has an IIP xA with aftermarket rims that look a lot like stock tC rims. When I pulled up next to him I told him they'd look better on his car.

You should do that. They look awesome in that pic.

Well I did a really half-assed job of it yesterday. When I redo them, I'm going to sand the wheels down to the metal, spray a base coat of black primer, and spray a coat of gloss black. Then I'm going to mask off the inner edges of the wheels (the parts that are not parallel to the side of the car/tires), and spray a coat of blue/red/whatever color I decide on, and top everything off with a couple clear coats. When I'm done, I should have a nice looking, long lasting finish on them. If the paint holds up as long as my race tires, I'll be happy.
