Paint Issue (this is a shock)
ok had my Tc for a week , Overal I enjoy the car , nice ride , decent get up and go , good gas millage (24 mpg but heard that will improve as motor breaks in <AUTO>)My only major complaint YET is the paint . I have seen rice paper that strikes me as being thicker . I already have a few paint chips and so forth from just a week of driving let alone wondering what its gonna look like in five years . But to the major point of this thread . I did a search and was unable to find any threads that related to this issue that I just now discovered . Washing and waxing it for the first time today (kinda my way of saying its mine now) I discovered a patch of paint on the rear C piller (might have called it wrong) the piller that matches up to the rear hatch flush . There is a patch of paint about the size of a playing card cut into fours . The patch seems like its lighter than the rest of the paint and from some angles you can see it from others you cant . I am thinking about going to the dealership and making a complaint about this . In your opinion do you think they will do anything ? This bugs the ____ outta me . If you think this is somethign I should persue , and my present deaolership wont do nothing about it , Would going to another dealership (got two others to pick from ) might be a better idea ?
ok this is really my first post but i believe that you should ask around for a little bit and if you notice that other people are having the same problem go to the dealership and see what you can do. i order my tc 2 weeks ago hopefully to be gettign it soon.
In my opinion, if you see a flaw in the paint, or any flaw/defect in the craftmenship of the car, don't delay, take it to the dealer and tell them you want it fixed. If they give you some BS about its not covered, or its normal, etc talk to the service manager. If you get the same story go up the chain. If the manager of the dealership gives you trouble, be sure to get all of the business cards of the people you dealt with. Contact the regional manager if possible, or go straight to Scion HQ and report the problem and the people you dealt with. Name, names. I wouldn’t debate on what to do, I would get it solved ASAP. Doing research on whether it has happened or not to others is a good thing and can provide you with information, which is ammunition to take to the dealership. But, I would not wait around to find if others have had the same problem.
Well just got back from Toyota/Scion , spoke to TWO service advisors , and got both their names and numbers as well as hours of work . I will be going in and having the body shop examine the area and from what the service advisors told me there should be no questioning and should be covered , I HOPE SO HAD IT A WEEK
this paint defect is under the clear coat (if we have clear coats) it looks like a small section of the body wasnt fully sprayed at the factory . The color red turns real light and faint . and you cant feel no imperfections and cant see any on the surface of the paint . Its almost like how you spray paint something and dont get it covered fully . the color is there but just not as deep as the rest of the paint
When I picked up my car there were a few small blemishes that were caused by the adhesive from shipping sticking to the body or whatnot... They weren't super noticeable but you COULD easily identify if told where to look. The dealer noticed these and handled them a week after my purchase which is when they put in my new stereo, etc. The fix simply involved them heating up the adhesive so it would come off. They said it didn't take too long. They opted to wax my car afterward so it'd look all shiny and new, but... I have the black cherry pearl. Not sure if it would be the same on the red or not, but you could always ask them if it's that. I think all Toyota dealers have the same forms and the fix on this was put on a "We Owe"
Hope this helps.

I have had my xB for a year now and I can tell you this, if you are buying one or have a new one, by the 3M clear cover for the front. I wish I had done this when I bought mine. The front of my hood is all chipped up from roads and highways. It is so bad now that I am planning on buying a CF hood so I don't have this problem ever again. I also have minor blemishes in the pain in some areas, but it is hardly noticeable. Honestly, the Scion paint job on these cars is so thin, that it will be almost impossible to keep it flawless no matter how hard you take care of it. Get it repainted by a professional. I forsee this in my future. I have no other gripes about my xB though.

Ohh I forsee a paintjob in my future down the road , unless I trade it but I doubt that . I know of a few places that do high quality work and stand behind their work . Thing is they do high end cars LOL (ferrari , lambo , Bmw and Mercades) I know a few people there so they should cut me a deal when that day of a new paint job comes
The 3M clear film works very good. However it is not cheap, and let a pro install it for you, the 3M film is very hard to put on. Had the film installed on my Matrix two years ago and the front of this car still looks like new. Also installed some 3M film on the rockers of my tC to help prevent heel scuff marks.
A lady at my work had the film put on her car when she got it... Think she said it's an 03 Corolla. Looked really good and you could barely notice it even up close. She said the dealer did it right as she bought it. Does Toyota have films like this? Is it 3M if they do? Or if Toyota has it's OWN film, how's it rank?
When I used to work for a Toyota processing and distributor . I was in the lexus division and they tried the 3m film but called it "Star Shield" HMM that screams marketing gimic LOL . The film went on at the distributor when the units were ordered with the film installed . The one prob we ran into was it was (like mentioned before) was difficult to install and not get all blemishes and so forth out from under the plastic . I would say about a month or so the product was discontinued , Most Lexus customers werent liking it , others complained about blemishes and so forth . Me personally I dont think it looked to bad , But it was a _____ inspecting those units in the light tunnel
don't tailgate as much?
Clear guards work well. But you have to have spotless paint befor applying.
Blemishes under clear coats can happen when painting the car. The manufacturer should take care of it. they'll have to sand it down to the blemish, and repaint it in layers and blend it back up.
