What did you use to paint them? You should take some pics in the light.

Is it illegal at all to paint them so dark like that?

I am thinking about having my local tint shop tint my '08 tails with a light tint when I buy it next spring, since it will be getting tinted the same day, so the '08 "rice" tails don't stick out so bad. I was thinking maybe 40% or 50%, I'm afraid to do too much darker because I don't want attention from the cops and I also don't want to impede too much on the light output.

Any night shots of them?

i didnt tint mine that much..ill post pics some other time, but cops usually dont bust you for tail lights that are blackout out, on ebay you can but the tint paint, one can is 3 coats and 2 cans, well u can figure it out, DONT TINT YOUR HEAD LIGHTS YOUR ASKING FOR TROUBLE...so to answer you question, Yes it is Illegal but cops dont usually bust you for them..good luck and nice job up there

they are illegal but if their not tinted too dark, then the cops dont really care, my bf has smoked tails on his mustang, i think it is 50%, and he has never been questioned about his taillights. I think if they are completely black when you cant see the red anymore thats when they'll get you...

they are not illegal... the "law" on taillights is that you must be able to see the light they emit from 500 ft away, which you can... when my lights light up they are just as bright as before the paint... the only issue is i no longer had reflectors (i dont think they still work anyway) which a cop could ____ with me for... in sort i wont get a ticket for the lights but a cop my see them, not like them and tail me until i speed or change lanes without signaling lol.

yes they are illegal and you can't even see them turned on late at night. Also illegal because you just took the reflector out of play which you must have. i almost hit a car that has tinted tails because he braked but it light was so dim i didn't know he was braking.... all black car with dim brake lights at night not a good combo. No doubt it looks nice but i think it is dangerous.
