I am looking at getting a carbon fiber hood for my tC. I don't like the "junkyard hood" look where the hood is a different color. I want it to be painted to match the car. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with getting a carbon hood painted. Mainly, if anything special has to be done to ensure good paint adhesion to the hood.
Not only will it save you money but it won't have the weave pattern under the paint. If you look at some people who get CF fenders and hoods that have painted them body color, they have the little squares in the paint where the weaves overlap if they didn't wetsand it down. I've got my CF hood painted but it still shows some carbon in a very unique way. Just click my signature link and check out the pics. Keep in mind the paint on that hood alone cost 600 bucks...

when my family heard my idea about getting a cf hood... my wife and mom was the same like you:
"that will look like crap.. like you dont have money to get it painted so u left it black."
etc etc etc.
then i got my hood.. installed it.. showed them and even my mom was like: that looks bad a$s.. and she was very skeptical!!!
btw i have my hood almost 2 years now.. NOBODY ever said anything bad about my hood!

^x2 you got ripped off, i recently got my cf spoiler painted and i can see the cf weaves but only when the sun is right on the spoiler but then again it was more of a free paint job that came out good too lol.
You don't realize that I have a 3 stage pearl paint that was blended onto the fenders, bumper, and a-pillar plus it has a two tone black candy clear. Look at the pics. The paint job is flawless. The whole front end of the car ended up with a nice seamless coat and no edge on the color difference. Everything is flush. Quality work ain't cheap. Plus a lifetime warranty is priceless.

But regardless, if all that work went into it, then yeah, good deal. But, you should've mentioned that in your original post because you clearly said "Keep in mind the paint on that hood alone cost 600 bucks..."...so yeah, it wasn't "the paint on the hood alone".
Look at my whole car....everything except my doors are essentially fiberglass. It's the same concept.
In my opinion, you can't judge the quality of a paint job through low-res shots, or any pics of the car in general. People thought my pink paint job looked bad@$$ in pics but when you saw it up close, it was an abomination.

i agree with tina and actually there is people on here who get ripped off on paint or anything in general. you didn't explain it in your first post but now it makes sense why you paid alot because they did more work to it than what you can even tell in the pics that you have.
I would hope that nobody seriously thought I paid 600 bucks for just the paint without labor
. This paint job is a 2 incher... get as close as you want and you'll see no orange peel, weave, runs, or steps. The paint shop restores classic cars and paints show winners.

Thanks guys. I have found a fiberglass hood that I like so if I get my money from the people at fault for bashing my current hood, I think I'll go that route.
