Default Painting headlights tomorrow.....quick process question

After I clearcoat, what do I need to put on. Do I need to put on rubbing compound and Plast-X just like when I tinted my tails, or is there something else? Also, if I mark on the housing with a marker, will it come off easily? Thanks in advance, and I'll post pics/make a DIY when I'm done.

Are you smoking them? What is the marker for? I don't think marker will come off the housing, why not use painter's tape?

I would wetsand after clearcoat with 2000 grit.

Sorry......what exactly I'm doing is painting on an eyelid since my vinyls got messed up this past winter when 10 inches of snow sat on them for a couple days. The marker is to line out where I need to tape for the curves. I am taking off my eyelid and tracing that onto paper and cutting it out, then I'm taping off based on that cutout, but I thought it'd be easier to trace the cutout onto the housing first.

Bake them open and paint them from the inside! It will look more stock and smoother.

Not sure what you need to do after the clear coat other than what ilovemytc said, but marker will come off easily, its only plastic after all. use googone or something. or rubbing alcohol.
