pedastal or lip spolier??
Its all up to you man, whatever you think looks the best. Dont go with what others want go for what you want. And, those arent the only two spoilers out there. Search a little more and youll find like.. the viniati spoiler or whatever its called that one looks nice. It pretty much depends on what you want your car to look like.
I have the pedestal spoiler, and I think it looks better than the lip spoiler, it gives the car more dimension, but if you're looking for a cleaner look, then go with the lip. the pedestal kinda screws up your view a tad in the back though...oh well, i like mine.
I'm still waiting for my pedestal spoiler to be put on my 06, at last check still on back order. I prefer the pedestal to the lip spoiler but hubby likes the lip better....it's all how you want to have your car personalized. The viniati looks really cool too...love it on Silver tC in the pic above.
I have been turned off by big spoilers ever since every boy racer out there tried to copy the old Supra's giant hoop on everything from Civics, Sentras, and the silly looking ones on Mitsubishi Eclipses that look like big basket handles.
Anyway, I read that you have to be going at least 160+ MPH to start feeling any effect (downforce) from a rear spoiler (and that's if it's properly designed and set up), so it's mostly a posuer accessory. A good front air dam would reap more benefits aerodynamically because of it's better effectivenes at smoothing down the airflow around you car and reducing turbulence below it at much lower speeds.
I'd go with a much cleaner and simple lip spoiler if you insist on adding a spoiler of any kind to your tC, which also minimizes the ricey effect.
The very clean lines of the tC and it's abbreviated tail are not complimented by the oversized looking pedestal spoiler IMO.
After considering adding the OEM lip spoiler to my FM tC, I'm now almost convinced that I should just leave the tail alone, unless I find an even simpler, and smaller lipped spoiler like what you see on BMW M3s The small lower end tabs of the OEM lip spoiler bother's me a bit, because of how it kinda breaks up the lines on the back of the car.

so it's PURELY aesthetics in terms of which spoiler to go with. go with what you like!
I saw this one in person at the Scion Expo... I looked pretty good in BSP.

I had the same dilemma, and knew I wanted a spoiler because the tc looks weird and unfinished without one with than small back end but I didn't know which one to get. In the end I decided the lip spoiler isn't really a spoiler but just a thin sheet of metal laying barely above your trunk. I'd looked at so many spoilers on the web and they all looked a little weird. I went with the factory pedestal just because I thought there'd be less problems (paint, material match, installation, etc) with one made by the factory. When I got it I was surprised, it didn't look wierd at all and really complemented the car. In fact I couldn't see my car without it. I drove by another Scion Tc same color in a parking lot without a spoiler and it just didn't look nearly as nice without it. Moral to the story: it looks much nicer in person and on the car than in pictures by itself.
