Okay thanks C. I've read a thread that says dye the clear housing with color and not remove the color from it. Or do you think the process is reversible?

LOL! I'm curios on how to dye-out the amber color from the OEM amber corners to make it a clear one. Do you think that's chemically possible?

Sorry for the confusion.

Yeah, I was wonderin the same thing too. To DYE-it-OUT for it to be clear and not replace them with light diffusers. Can someone who is chemically inclined chime in please???

i'm pretty sure you can't take an acid to it and get the orange off. its a solid orange piece so i doubt whatever you do will take the tint out of it.

could be wrong tho, i'm a mechanical engienerr not a chemical engineer

Ya, they kinda look black in that pic, but they're really nice. Just dark enough to not really notice the amber. But there's still some reflection to them if that's what you're wondering. And I'm pretty sure you can still see some amber in the sunlight.

Here are a couple other pics:

amber bulb or not, the law requires the side marker to REFLECT amber... not just light up amber.

there will never be any OEM clear corners unless there is another separate amber sidemarker reflector.

Now if someone can make a clear piece that uses some mirror trick to reflect amber... then we'd be in business.

^ Are you sure? I remember it was okay to have clears as long as it blinked amber.

In any case, there are headlights that have clears.. So it's not like that stopping them from being made.

Here are some an example:

^^ But those aren't DOT approved. And besides, the only thing decent-looking on those is the cut-off.

I agree. The headlights are hot as they are. Clear/white reflectors would be nice.

Nope, not true. Most states require an amber or white reflector at the front of the vehicle.

LINK TO ONLINE DMV

(example is MO because I live there and I am familiar with the laws)
Missouri 307.095. 1. Headlamps, when lighted, shall exhibit lights substantially white in color; auxiliary lamps, cowllamps, reflectors and spotlamps, when lighted, shall exhibit substantially white, yellow or amber in color. No person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment, except a school bus when used for school purposes or an emergency vehicle upon any street or highway with any lamp or device thereon displaying a red light visible from directly in front thereof.

...in fact I believe there are some cars in the US sold with white front reflectors as OEM. ...Don't quote me on that tho.

Actually, Astro and Safari vans were produced with clear turn signal lenses and used amber bulbs. They were nice and simple to make any color turn signal you wanted; just change the bulb.

Coo~ Thanx for the info!.. I didn't think it was illegal..

In any case, for people that say you should overlay it: personally #1 I don't like it blacked out, #2 having an extra layer of film to the lens isn't something I'd want, and #3 I doubt even more that it'd be DOT legal and perhaps attract even more unwanted attention for fix it tix.
