Default Please help......wind defelctor shattered on me

Ok well here I am at work and I needed to go the bathroom.....so im walking on the 2nd flr balcony and look at my beautiful car and I see something weid from my wind defelctor and sure enough it was shattered......

I saw it today in the morning and it was fine....I drove with it open on the streets and freeway but didnt hear anything......I didnt notice anything when I got to work and it closed fine.....

anyways I went to the dealership and they told me that it wouldnt be covered by warranty.....
now I mentioned to the service guy that I knew the '05 got the recall but the '06 were already made with the film on the defelctor....he looked at the VIN and he told me that even tho my tC is an '06 its still considered an '05....he read the number to me and cuz of some series of number he thought that...

could this be true? that my '06 is considered an '05 and I didnt get the recall letter?
but when it shattered...it didnt go everywhere....

if it really is not covered by warranty is the dealership the ONLY place I can get a replacement? they gave me 2 quote both between $300-350. I personally think thats outrageous.

wouldnt I be able to go to a glass place and get it there....

the pictures that are in this post are exactly how mine looks

please if anyone has any advice or recommendations let me know. and if you think the dealership is bulls&*ting me let me know...thanks

your car isn't an 05, they didn't catch the first few funs of 06 before the recall came out.. I 2 had to do the recall on my 06 tC..

That is a manufacturer defect and should be covered under your car's warrenty.

hmmm interesting....yeah thats what I thought.....I should go backand have them run everything as far as my VIN number...

is theyre any documents I could show them or anything to back me up that it should be covered by warranty?

also I have the extended warranty and keep in mind that I have 41,000 miles on the car if that makes any difference

The recall does nothing to keep it from breaking, it only keeps the glass from going all over.

If it truly broke sitting there, you should be covered. But the dealers are going to say someone broke it, it broke while driving, etc and try to screw you.. like most dealers do.

You can get cheaper labor outside the dealer, but I dont reccomend cheaper glass. There is a reason all OEM glass is more expensive.. it is 99% of the time better glass.

This is one reason I love that Minnesota requires full glass coverage on insurance policies. No deductable even if the dealer screws you

Bad news. The year of the tC does not matter. The "fix" for 2005 was to add a laminate to the back side of the wind deflector. 2006 and 2007 are treated before they leave the factory. It is not intended to keep the glass from breaking, only to keep it from shattering into a bunch of little pieces and flying all over the driver and interior.

Odds are very good, whether you would like to believe it or not, something hit your wind deflector causing it to break. Scion can not be held responsible for that something hitting your car, that’s why we have insurance. Your situation would be no different if someone hit your windshield or any other glass with an object of come kind. You would blame them not Scion.

It’s unfortunate what happened to you, bad things happen sometimes.

no i understand the whole situation of the recall.....I know mine is an '06 but with what he said that he thought might be considered being it an early '06...

anyways I saw it b4 I left to work and it was fine....I always look at my car when I walking on the 2nd floor and I saw it when I went into the ofice and didnt see antyhing......hours later I noticed it......

to me the way it shattered it did it on its own.....

it doesnt have a hole or anything to show somwthing hit plus I would or hear it......

it does suck and hopefully I can get the funds to get it fixed.

I have an early 06 and I had the recall done...if that helps you.

Either way, I don't think that changes the situation. I don't believe warranty will help you on this one. Sorry that happened and hope you have better luck getting it replaced.

YES! You need to call.

And after they fix it, put on a Team Sciontific deflector sticker.
