Pop-up Spoiler - Ideas/Thoughts
Ok SLer's...I have an idea and I'd like to get the thoughts of my fellow modifiers and customizers. Now this will take some designing, etc. etc. but here goes:
I'm wondering if a pop-up spoiler could be created from the tC's hatch. When it's down, the hatch is completely flush, but when you flip a switch, it pop's up into its spoiler mode. Something along the same lines as the 2008 Audi TT Roadster or the Bugatti. Still haven't got some styling down yet, but that will come later.
Ok, there it is...now throw everything at me and hold nothing back.

You should do a "Super Pursuit Mode" of a tC...For example from the Knight Rider 80's version.

^LOL!!!!! Oh man those were the days! The idea would be nice but really impractical for functional use. Usually these top of mods would be for people who have a lot of money and don't know what else to do to their car and just spend it on random stuff.
the VW Corrado from the early 90's had the same function. Jetta owners would find them from junkyards and retrofit them on their trunks. I suppose you can try getting the parts off a corrado and use the tC's factory lip trunk spoiler.

Man I think it would be cool if done tastefully... like a completly flush spoiler (looks like there isnt a spoiler at all) then pops up a couple inches... Im really interested in this
Well, ask anyone...my mods take forever to do because I work with a poor mans budget, but by taking so long, it gives me time to avoid costly mistakes. This mod..I think I'm going to try and make a mock up based of a cheap mold of the hatch and work off of that. Unfortunately, for some of the materials that I use, I do need it to be warmer or things won't set right. I have looked through various junkyards for some hatches for the tC, but they want about the same price as a new one (almost).
I have spoke with ScionPro who has expressed some interest in the idea, but we're still in the talking stages of things and he too states it's design is only limited to the cost of the project.
I did think about this spoiler, but it's not flush...it just sits on the hatch itself:

^ I agree. But since almost none of us are gonna be goin over 150 mph I dont think it'll have to be that strong which leads to not that expensive. Problems I see that will have to be addressed are like leaks and things of that nature
I personally just want it flat w/ the hatch when it's in and then it comes up to a certain height at a certain speed and also has an override so you can put it up and down at will. If this will do anything, it could help for handling and stability rather than high speed acceleration aerodynamics.
Kind of like this:

Anyone know where I could get some actuators or small motorized lifts (pretty much the same thing)?? I'm going to be working on a mock-up soon. I believe the Viniati spoiler will most likely be the spoiler of choice, but I'm still up in the are on it. The idea of having a spoiler-less hatch when it's down is still desired.

Even on super cars, the skeleton pedestal looks hideous when the spoiler is up. In some way it reminds me of the Terminator. They should cover all that up with some kind of boot bellows. Just my 2 cents, and an idea for you.
