love these close-ups.

correct me if i'm wrong, but the kaminari CF appears to have the darkest
black color of all and the least CF-looking.

It's actually just about 1/2in.

Diliriuos already PM'd me and asked me to take this picture so I sent it to him on PM there and then found this and decided to make sure everyone knew what it was.

Also, the only issue I have with the hood is the hood's latch is 3/4in longer than the stock one, so you have to cut away some of the metal beneath the stock hood release and lower it down, not sure if it's the same on *all* Kaminari CF hoods or that this one is just a freak, but I can take pictures of that as well if you're interested.

Yeah, it's definitely a quality vs. quantity piece (read: not made by 'FIRST!' companies..)

Kami wasn't the first to market a hood for the tC, but it's definitely the best of them, even if you don't like the look, you can't deny it's the best fitting by far.

I have a lot of friends with other makes of car with other branded CF hoods and are just ____ed (wow, that was filtered? geez.) mine fits so well compared to theirs, it's also made in such a way that hood pins are not required, unlike some other hoods.

Even tho I had the hood in frp I didnt have any latch probs like you said. are the latches the same for both kinds of hoods?

Well I was correcting the width of the black lining you said, didn't take but a minute to walk to the garage with my phone and a measuring tape

It would seem the latches are hit or miss, parts bin basically, which is a shame because the rest of this hood is just amazing.

Well considering the response of the SsmoothyMonster, I would say the latch issue isn't uncommon, not sure if he has the CF one or not, I think so considering he mentioned the lining, so yeah.

Their attention to detail is why I can't wait to get their flush mount spoiler, I know it'll just take paint and some double sided sticky tape and be good.

The CF hoods latch is metal and bolted to the frame of the hood, is that how yours was?

This specific hood is special to the PNW owners and probably even the whole community, as it is signed by Tanner Faust, Ken Gushi, and even Troy Sumitomo.

Well it appears to not be totally uncommon as far as I can tell, the previous owner of my hood had it all already worked out though and he and I installed it on my car together.

My new (to me) beauty:

Kami!

Fresh from a two wax & polish job.

Some peeps would of said I overpaid but when it only has one little bitty chip; I say I got good deal without the shipping charge.

I tried to install it yesterday. It wouldn't lock. So I threw back on the stock. I am planning on putting Sparco pins and washer nozzles too. And also a new lock latch. When I have a 2nd person helping and a drill!

FYI, It looks SO SHARP on CSM! I can't wait to see what this beauty will look with the whole Kami look (full body kit & lip spoiler)

ive always wanted to know if the kami hood is actually functional cause the cowl seems a little to close to the front to really vent anything as it seems unless someone else has hands on experience.

*I need to adjust the heat shield a bit since it's pushing up on the scoop propping the hood, but the scoop is feeding air directly to the filter and being trapped by the heat shield.

Fit seems to be pretty good as far as I can tell. It latches in very solid and I've heard feedback from other VIS Evo hood owners that auto cross and drag with it without pins, but I do have a set of AeroCatch pins I'm still debating installing. The only fit issue would be the windshield washer nozzles; the OEM nozzles are slightly too big for the holes I ended up dropping one in my engine bay somewhere, so I just bought new ones from Advance Auto that fit. It's pretty aggressive but it functions exactly how I wanted it to and the quality is pretty sweet in person.

I like it especially with its function. Do you drive it daily? My concern is just rain water directly to manifold

It is my daily driver. I'm most likely going to try and use my sister's car for the Winter since she's at grad school in Cali though.

It certainly functions! It's been cooler now that we're heading into the fall, but with the OEM hood I've seen my IATs reach 168F when I left my car idling on a cool summer night (granted this was before I got a heat shield fabricated) and with this vented hood and my heat shield I haven't seen over 106F idling. Cruising, I see IATs within 10 deg or less of atmospheric temps.

As for rain, I had the same concern but speaking with Paul at Dezod Motorsports he calmed my concerns by just mentioning how things get wet from rain anyhow. Obviously things are much more susceptible to rain now, so I still had concerns but the 2nd night I had my hood on it rained a little overnight to my surprise. By morning things were pretty dry with some water beads here and there; and just these passed two days it stormed and believe me I was nervous. However; I went outside looked at everything dripping wet through the vent and went to start the car and she fired right up no hesitation and everything just began to evaporate. The only thing that I would worry about is my cast iron mani getting a little oxidized or the turbine housing, but I have a turbo blanket on and I don't really enter shows. The VIS Evo hood DOES come with a rain guard for the center vent so you can always put that on for peace of mind.

I think that's where the Kami comes into play. Heat is able to exit but keeps water out. I've opened the hood after rain storm and didn't see any rain drops. I hate it when water sits in the crowl area after car washes.

When installing it; my cousin thought it looks way too sexy to drill in to it for washer squirts and hood pins. I'm glad he didn't. Once cold air comes along, its coming off & I decided that I'm going to get it re-clear coated.

(Mind the trashed garage) I haven't had time to shine & snap shots.
