Default Primering a tC

Ok so I wanna primer my tC with black primer. Reason I wanna do it is cause I like the look of the finish and it would be nice not to have to worry about scratching paint or waxing ever again. Who knows? I may eventually repaint it later on but for now this is what I want to do. I dont know exactly what I need to do but Ive been told I need to sand off the clear coat first. I plan on removing the front and rear bumper and probably the sideskirts. Then I will remove the lip kit and do all of these pieces separately. Any extra info that I should know? Will a primered finish last long? Is my idea kinda stupid? Cause I think the tC would look hot! I plan on getting some black housed projectors and maybe blacking out the tails. LMK what ya'll think!

You asked for everyone's opinions, so prepare to be lit up.

Personally, I don't think that the look would be "desirable" to say the least.

If you spray it yourself it will look absolutely horrible... I mean HORRIBLE. if you have a shop spray the car flat black and do it right, you could pull it off, but that's not going to be a cheap deal.

I remember a pic of someone doing this to their tc.. I think they had a widebody kit but didnt put spacers on the wheels and tried to make it look like a batmobile.. I remember it looking really stupid.. not the paint, but the look of the kit/wheels

ah hah! thats the same one! you should post the pic so the OP can see what flatblack would look like and then base his decision off that..

my opinion on flatblack is that it reminds me like the car was gutted and burned for several hours and has the burn look..

would it still be that expensive if he had shop do it? Cause its not like it would even be a full job? There's be no mixing of colors no clearcoat..... I would imagine this option would be more affordable than anything a shop could charge right?

Ummm... I'm going to go with a big fat NO on this one.

Primer is for choppers in the works, or old school bombers.. good lord don't kill a tC with primer. If you pulled up next me with a primered tC I would probably point and laugh. Especially if I knew you did it because your lazy! (no offense)

If you do, do it, have fun sanding down all the factory paint, and load more blocking - and sanding trying to get it all even again.

they make a flat clearcoat. you could always have the car painted flat black with a flat clear. at least then its a quality paint job that would last. if you are talking about hitting it with rattle cans then i think the idea is stupid. flat black with a flat clear might be cool...They did it on pimp my ride once. it was that old car with the huge subwoofer that took up the whole back seat. it was black and red. they used a flat black paint and a matte finish clear coat. tried to find photos but can't seem to find them anywhere

If his car is anywhere near as ugly as his MySpace, then it MUST be bad.

haha.. OP, we're not trying to tell you what to do with your car.. you can do whatever you want.. I think flatblack looks good on only a few cars.. mostly civics... the tC has some great paint COLOR... not the paint itself, but the colors are pretty cool.. but like I said..it's your car!

he sold it on ebay in december for $15000 because apparently he moved to a place with street parking only and didn't want it getting broken into

Hmm Im still interested. Its more of me liking the look than me being lazy, thats just a bonus. Thing is my paint turned to sh*t real quick cause of all the miles I have on it already so I want something thats less of a hassle for now. How much do you think a shop would charge me to sand and primer? My friends primered their civics themselves and it looked pretty good and even. I dont see why I couldnt do the same? They arent professional painters or anything and Ive painted a few things in my time lol. Thanks for the replies guys!

i don't know much about paint but i know a quality job is expensive. you could always have them strip the clear and spray some PPG Epoxy primer on it. It wouldn't last forever but it would be much better than a rattle can and loads cheaper than a full on paint job even if it was just flat black and matte clear. take it to some shops...they'll quote you anything for free
