Default Pulled over for HID's ... Halogen bulbs question

What is the maximum amount of watts for the halogen bulbs, before a harness upgrade is needed? would 100w halogen bulbs require a upgraded harness?

also, is the wire harness "plug and play" or is splicing wires involved?

I got a fix-it ticket for HID's (35w 8000k) even with my S-tech drop ... so Im going back to halogen's

dude if its a fix it ticket, just stick your stock bulbs back in and show the cops your car to have the ticket exponged, and then put the HID bulbs back in.

dont even bother removing the ballasts

pull them out and put in the stockies for a bit as it was the 8000k blue that got you,not the HIDS

wow... yeah, i don't get why you don't just put some stock halogens temporarily, and get it signed off, and then put them HIDS BACK onnnnn!

Ive been high beamed a few times as well ... I originally bought them back when I did very little city driving. Also, Im giving the car to my sister soon (buying a C350) ... and I dont want her to put up with the hassle.

didja reaim the beams? i say get 4300 or 5k hids and then lower them alot. since they are in there might as well keep in there.. unless you really wanna take out the ballasts (depending where you mounted them)

but to answer your original question.. im not too sure how much wattage you can pull before you need to upgrade your harness, but 100w just seems way to darn high.. the heat will be horrible.. i remember doing the 9005 mod to push 65w and my headlamp got really hot at times even at night.

^ well, I just used double sided adhesive tape for the ballasts. I didnt drill them in there or anything like that, so there wasnt alot of effort put into it. I cant find any halogen bulbs under 100w ... closest I found was 80w. Might just go with the SilverStar Ultras.

Does upgrading the wire harness require splicing wires?

do you know the total wattage on them? ... I heard youre not supposed to exceed like 60w or something, without upgrading the stock harness.

im looking at the case right now... its a 12v 55w HB4 White Sonic S Raybrig... good stuff, the story behind it was that i had Nokyas but i didnt like them and they burned my pigtails so i spliced them and put on new aftermarkets pigtails which is the same as stock, but when you do put in new aftermarket halogen bulbs you MUST put Dielectric grease in the bulb contact to keep it from arcing or else you will do what i did burn and replaced pigtails... good luck

To the OP - Go to Walmart and buy a regular head light bulb. It will work just fine.

100 watt is probably the output...usually its around 50-65 watts drawing power. you shouldnt need new harness for normal bulbs. ive had my POLARG 5000k Shining Wizard halogens for a bit over a year now...no harness trouble. literally just plugged them in and been in since then.

on a side note, you were just asking to be pulled over with 8000k HIDs. if a cop notices anything other than the usual white-yellow patterns, theyll usually stop you.

good luck

OP, are you running HIDs through a proper xenon headlamb assembly?

That easily explains him getting pulled over for any HID put in there.........

A halogen housing isn't made to handle the lumens output of HIDs, resulting in unfocused light, blinding EVERYONE coming at you
