Question about HID's....
I see some people with HID's in their stock housing and I also hear from some people that it's very bad to do that. I think it looks sick but don't know why i shouldn't. What are the pro's and con's of Aftermarket HID's in a stock housing?
stock housing does not have projectors which is wat hid's are used with...so that means our housing produces glare that might blind oncoming traffic...ive had mine on for a couple of weeks and havent had a problem, but i think it would be way better with projectors
the lows are pointed down...they wont give any1 glare....the reason why people say that is because projectors maximize your beam and evenly distribute it to a nice line with a very cool cutoff effect. Regular reflectors dont, some people say its pointless...but its definitely worth it....obviously projectors look better since the beam is coming from one little circles instead of the whole housing....but it isnt bad to have thm without projectors thats personal opinion
dont do it!!!

you want HID's do it right! check out HIDPlanet.com/forums and check out all the info you need!

I have 6000K on my stock housing
they are pointed low
I don't glare anyone in front of me (I can see in the reflection of their bumpers that it doesn't hit higher than their license plates) so u'll just be fine

Glare is not direct light coming from the headlights. Glare is light that bounces off the reflector and light that gets scattered due to the design of the reflector, which isn't as bright as the main beam of light, but can still be annoying as hell and can be dangerous for other drivers on the road. You can try to compensate by pointing the headlights a little lower, but you reduce the distance the light shines down the road.
There are vehicles that have HID that came from factory in reflector housings, which is OK because the headlight housing is designed specifically for HID so it does not throw light that can distract other drivers on the road.
HID does tend to look better in projectors because it causes that cool effect where direct light is white and the edges and from the side it looks bluish, maybe even a violet hue.
I suggest anyone who wants to put HID in their car to read the sticky-ed thread in the Aero and Exterior called HID for noobs.

I'd be willing to bet that stock headlights with 4300 K HIDs are still better than the so called 'ebay projectors.'

i had HID's in my stock housing for a while.. but htey are teh ___.
i say taht for two reasons:
1) you have to aim them low so that you do not blind oncoming traffic, and by doing that you do not get a good amount of light on the road ahead of you.
2) you have to worry about cops hassling you if you do not aim them low.. because it is illegal to put HID's in a non projector housing.
i say just get some 9005 bulbs and convert them so they fit in your low beam spot. thats what i did with my stock hi- beam bulbs.. and they are bright.
if you need help.. you cna roll by my crib cuz your close anyways.

like a broken record.. man..
hot spots are areas of concentrated light caused by inproper design of housings or improper light put into the wrong housing. HID's arent soley for projectors as bronx stated previously. acura tl (earlier models) are an example. headlights are build to fit a designated bulb.. so, your 9006 is a low power small bulb. a HID bulb going to be D2S (is actualy what a real hid bulb is called) but is rebased, meaning instead of going into a d2s projector housing, they have to put a 9006 end on it.. what this does is change the lenght of the bulb.. d2s bulbs are naturaly longer than any stock halogen bulb out there.. so what this does is puts light into the stock housings where there isnt from the stock bulb.. this is where the glare comes in. now you have light boucing off parts of the headlight that arent supposed too.. thus equaling glare.. and for those who say they dont have glare, im raising the BS flag... and for those that aim there lights down, WTF... so you spend $250 for HID's that are only made for there brightness/efficiency and taking that sole feature away from them.. so you took a step forward w/ the hid's, but then took a step back as your throw distance is now crap.. and then go and throw in 10000k bulbs and spead the purple light all around and kill your output..
so, you also asked how to retrofit bulbs. you dont.. they are talking about taking a HID projector out of an luxary vehicle like an bmw X5 or acura TSX and using those projectors, drill, cut, mount, level, wire them up to fit your car.. which is gonna cost ya no less than $400 in parts alone.. not to mention the loss of your headlights as your gonna cut them to pieces... its alot of work and is by no means for a novice.
so, in conclusion, HID in stock housing isnt worth the hassle. unless you do if for your brights cause then glare wont be an issue as you wont have them on when passing/following people.

no, the answer is not to just buy the ebay ones.. they suck and are setup stupid... and are they fake projectors? no, they are real projectors, but crappy ones.. they are not made to house HID.. so either way you look it it is bad.. dont do HID unless you buy quality projectorts from an car that came w/ them stock..
