Default Random Taillight mod.

yea so i had a spare set of stock tC taillights that i got from one of the dealers tired of them taking up space.
(good friends at dealerships = random hookups like crazy)

so i decided to use them as my testbed for random stuff since i dont think any of the aftermarket tails out now are any good.

I took the plugs for the running/brake lights and the turn signals and dremeled the tabs down a little so they could be switched out.

Heres the results!

i think its pretty spiffy. I searched and i couldn't find anything on a switch like this, it was pretty easy so im surprised.
gonna see about putting a little nautical blue eyebrow on them now.

ha ha, thats pretty kool. You should swap them as in 2 different blinkers and 2 different break lights. Im still crazed on how our license plate is 1 letter off from each other!

It's silly, at first I couldn't figure out what was different.
<-- Dumb.

Insteresting.
Maybe since you've got an extra set now you could cut 'em open and tint the inside for a cool candy look.

that would be an interesting effect... but i dunno if i would be the one to try that out first, im shocked that i was able to finish this little thing and keep all of my fingers and not destroy the tails in the process.

That's pretty cool. Atleast you've taken some initiative to do something. I've been wanting to do something to revise the look of the tC tails, but my ideas keep bringing me back to custom LEDs inside the stock housing...so that it looks stock until I step on the brake or use a blinker...but I haven't come up with anything great. And I doubt I will....

thats what i thought at first but thats not possible.

the brake light is a 2-stage bulb and it has double the contact points that the turn signal bulb has along with an extra power wire going into the brake bulb socket. so the bulbs do not fit or work in each others sockets.

hmm.. lol.. wow...

i always thought about doing that...

was just too busy and lazy with other things to ever really do it though... didn't think it would really work out too well... so i never did it.

that or have the bottom part as running/turn... and the top as brake... that'd be alot easier to wire up... basically switch two things and no crazy dremel or whatnot required.

So wait. What did you dremel? I really like how those turned out. I am getting way sick of my TYCs and those looks pretty nifty (that's right, I am bringing nifty back!).

it wasnt hard at all really and super easy.
theres just one tab on each of the sockets that i had to dremel only half of it down.
it would be hard to get pictures now

maybe i can take pics of my stock ones and draw in where i dremelled down.

u had to dremel theplastic huosing the bulb goes into that u twist into the taillight...

theirs like 3 squares u have to line up to put in and then turn to lock into place

if that makes sense

i tried to get pics but i dont have a decent camera ATM and all the pictures came out blurry.

but on my original stock tails the brake light plug fit into the turn signal spot and twisted in with no modification to it
the spare set didnt....
the turn signal plug still needed dremeling though,
