Replacing rear side window trim

Shes got some age on her and looks really bad. Im talking about the black part that goes around both back side windows on the tC. Has anyone removed it before and replaced it? Let me know

i sanded mine down with several grits of sandpaper to a smooth finish, i havent painted it though, not sure what kinda paint sticks to rubber

so did it take off the rubber coat or just the gritty texture
