how many of you are running a cf hood w/o the heat shield from the stock hood? are you running an aftermarket header also? any warping or anything like that, or is running a cf hood w/o the heat shield ok?

 

Im running my CF hood with no heat sheild for about a month no probs yet.

yes you will be fine.. close this topic.. it will not have an effect on your hood or clear coat. the hood and header are far from touching and have alot of clearance..

 

i had my cf hood on for a few months, with a dc header, it was perfectly fine.

 

I have a CF hood and i put my OEM carpet stuff from the stock hood onto my cf one.. I think it looks more "finished" with it on.. but as for warping without the heat shield.. Ive never heard of it.

 

over time enough heat ( turbo ) or ( header ) will discolor the hood. ive had it happen a few times.

 

I put my heat shield on. i like the oem look. Also picked up the stickers and dropped it on the hood as well.

 

any long term experiences that can debunk* what whocares said? a year or more would be nice but so far its +1 for the heat shield.

 

Well, my turbo has caused the OEM heat fabric on the stock hood to scorch. Being as I am getting a reverse cowl vented cf hood to clear some of that heat, I have been doing research, and I think I will use this right above my turbo manifold:

I just need to find a high temperature adhesive that can withstand the constant heat as well as the vibration.

 

i got a year and a half on mine with mmw headers the whole time...no problems whatsoever.

 

whats the cloth thing gonna do for you anyway? if it's gonna get hot... heatshield or not... it's fabric... it'll get hot. i think it's more noise reducing... than heat shield... lol. i've had my hood for about a year now. no problems. time for the vented hood!

I will... in a month or two It's getting done first week of the summer when I can afford to have my car immobilized for a week or so.

 

would a car technically be immobilized if you took off the headers? i mean i know itd be loud as hell and would make the engine bay extremely hot...but wouldnt the car still be drivable?

I ran with my turbo without a heat shield for about 6 months, Then put it on just for the hell of it. NO warping or discoloring.
